414PM Heads up, Durham and Orange Counties damaging in excess of 70MPH coming.

The National Weather Service says This is an EXTREMELY DANGEROUS SITUATION. This storm is producing
widespread wind damage across Alamance and Orange Counties. SEEK
SHELTER NOW inside a sturdy structure and stay away from windows.

The National Weather Service in Raleigh has issued a

* Severe Thunderstorm Warning for...
Southern Granville County in central North Carolina...
Northern Wake County in central North Carolina...
Durham County in central North Carolina...
West central Franklin County in central North Carolina...

* Until 500 PM EDT.

* At 420 PM EDT, a severe thunderstorm was located near Durham,
moving east at 50 mph.

THIS IS A DESTRUCTIVE STORM FOR SOUTHERN DURHAM AND NORTHERN
WAKE COUNTIES.

HAZARD...80 mph wind gusts and quarter size hail.

SOURCE...Emergency management.

IMPACT...Flying debris will be dangerous to those caught without
shelter. Mobile homes will be heavily damaged. Expect
considerable damage to roofs, windows, and vehicles.
Extensive tree damage and power outages are likely.

* Locations impacted include...
Raleigh, Durham, Cary, Creedmoor, Wake Forest, Butner, Franklinton,
RDU International, Morrisville and Rolesville.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Had some thunder and lightning, a downpour, and some wind, but went through very quickly. Guess it weakened once it went through Durham. Just have a little rain and thunder in the distance now. At least it cooled things down some.
 
The skies are dark and the wind is definitely picking up here south of Raleigh but there is nothing one could consider severe yet. There have been a few raindrops here and there but no downpours yet. It sounds like Person, Durham and Northern Wake County are in the bullseye for this severe weather outbreak.

It must have weakened once it came through Durham. Got an alert for winds up to 80 mph and it was nothing like that here. Only lasted about 10 minutes, too.
 
76/74 here in central Raleigh at 1.10" and counting. Dewpoint really dropped in front of this most recent squall (had been in the lower 80s DP including after the first storm which "cooled" things down to 81/80 lol).
 
Some good downbursts here may have been around 50mph and a bit of rain with the first cell. Power is out of course, seems to happen when someone sneezes too hard. Looks like another line coming through in just a few more mine that will drop some more liquid, happy to see that.

The roads were a disaster at around 5. Trees down, and the stoplights weren’t working and people don’t understand that means the intersections are supposed to be four-way stops.

The outage map doesn’t encourage my chances of getting power back. Looks like half the city, or more, is out of power.

Well Tempest showed 98/80 before storms rolled in, that would be a HI of 120. Probably off a few degrees but still it was brutal. Also 1.10 rain today

Today was honestly the absolute stickiest day I can ever remember here at home. Dewpoint started out at 78 when I woke up and rose to 80 right before the storm this afternoon. It’s 73 and dropping now. I’m hoping it’s at least under 65 when I get up at 5am to take the dogs out.

The humidity has been something else this summer. The last time I can remember this kind of humidity is in 1995 and that only lasted a couple of days I think. As bad as it has been around here though, it is nothing compared to I-95 and east in NC.

Get used to it. Oceans are soaking up a lot of extra heat. Need an army of canes to cool it off.

My neighborhood took it on the chin today. My neighbor lost a beautiful 100+ year old oak tree that turned my tulip poplar into a toothpick and snapped the power pole. Also ripped the power feed from the side of my house.

The next road over got it even worse, 20 trees snapped, a few more uprooted, a tree down on a house, etc.

We probably won't have power restored for at least a few days.

Yeah, I think the roasting Gulf water temps have something to do with it.
