Thanks for the image. Northern stream waves that move out in front of southern stream ones tend to do a good job allowing high pressure to build in in time for the southern wave. However, if the high is weak and cold air is lacking, which seems to be the case here, it doesn't much matter.

Active southern stream but not much delivery options for cold on the icon, looks like a marginal pattern, however the western ridge that was towering would have probably done the trick

This was the look yesterday at 18z, nice tall PNA ridge and some TPV getting into the mix for cold. A great look
The gefs now, everything above us is just ridging, there’s no TPV in the mix anymore given it’s locked up near Greenland from the SE can ridge, this is the same look we had last winter, Its not bad, but it’s not great, good pattern for suppressed systems, but marginal at best
