Yep, mRNA vaccines look pretty darn good so far against the variants.
Another big increase in the cases in India.
Turkey recorded a record high in cases.
Russia has now over 100,000 COVID-19 death.
Iran is having another surge in COVID-19 cases. Today they recorded 11,420 new cases and 123 new deaths. The surge started about a week ago.

Poland: 28,073 new cases and 571 new deaths.
Hungary: 8,637 new cases and 242 new deaths.
Italy: 21,261 new cases and 376 new deaths.

P.1 (Brazil) variant is now the one to track. Evidence of it being deadlier in younger people, and spreading 2x easier.
Canada update coming later today.
There’s an outbreak in British Columbia of P.1, linked to a Ski resort outbreak. It’s now overtaken the UK variant in Canada as a percentage of cases.
I worry about opening up as the P.1 variant becomes seeded in the United States. The CDC reports variant cases here,

which shows 58 cases in Mass, 55 cases in Florida, 33 in California, 19 in Illinois, 13 in Washington. Obviously community spread is occurring. How fast can we vaccinate to prevent a surge in P.1 in the US?

Just had another good friend pass away from the damage Covid did to his lungs. Spent over 50 days in the hospital on oxygen then another 2 weeks on a vent before passing away. He was in his late 60s and had underlying conditions. Such a good guy. He was loved and will be missed by many.
One of the Vancouver Canucks players got reinfected with the P1 variant.

The P1 variant increases the reinfection risk. The vaccines do still a pretty good job against that variant.

My wife gets shot #1 at Wal Greens today, mine is scheduled for Thursday.

I ended up being one of the lucky ones to get the disease before my shot took effect. Ended up going to the hospital last week for a couple of days and ended up with the pneumonia. The loaded me up with 3 treatments of remdesivir and that ended up killing the virus out of me. Now it's going to take time to get my lungs back to normal.
