Wintry Feb 17-19 Smastsmasher Snow/Ice

RNK tweeted hour or so ago, Most areas will start as snow! showed starting in Mt.Airy 12am IDK
Yea, soundings look better than the maps. Weird. NAM dried a little that run but still really close on soundings for the first 4 or 5 hours. After that, it is +5 c so likely ZR at that point. I am slightly worried about snow to ZR that gets more surface area in the trees. Sleet would knock it all down. I intend to sleep through all of the question marks and wake up to ZR:rolleyes:

Still 41 just south of Chapel Hill NC. Is it possible these warmer temps might save us? I’m not trying to (freezing) rain on anybody’s parade, but I’d like for the power to stay on.
Models have dewpoints inching downward through the night into the morning with the 30 degree dew point line getting down to near you. It'll be interesting to see where we are the morning

I'm currently at 29F in Franklin county AL. It started with light flurries at around 5pm, it later turned to sleet/freezing drizzle, back to all moderate granular wet snow between about 6:30 and 8:00pm, back to sleet, back to granular wet snow at 8:30 ( 2" of snow/sleet fell today so far), and now back to sleet and freezing drizzle 8:50pm. We still have 0.4" of ice accretion on top of all branches from Monday and some of the the wet slushy snow and freezing rain is starting to stick on top of the ice covered branches. I went out side for about 10 min and could hear a few large branches break and crash in the area. So some more tree damage is starting back up.
