HRRR latest run is trying to hold a mix on the precip maps but the soundings aren't even close with below freezing temps all the way through the column and winds aloft coming out of the NE and N
hrrr holding steady.
really trying to dig that precip down into sc, may be a nice surprise tomorrow evening down to darlington county.

HRRR still seems to be 4 degrees off currently...
Yeah we got from 40-46 with the sun now back down to 44
It’s been really consistent with that band too. Maybe it was onto something yesterday?

It has been like that a couple times this year and has not been right. But other short range models show some type of band so it should be interesting

hrrr showing snow showers from 1p-10p for charlotte, prob wont be quite that long duration but if we get under that band for a few hours 1-2" isnt out of the question.

HRRR at least for the upstate had sleet on the precip maps but if you check the soundings they were a clear snow sounding. Even had winds coming out of the NE and N by 12z.
Can you post the map for hour 30, please? If there is one.

Convection-allowing models, especially those that are NAM-based and
even the operational NAM itself depict potential for locally high
precip rates, esp across the Piedmont from late morning into the
afternoon, possibly resulting in quickly accumulating snowfall, even
in areas outside the warning. Of course, predicting where exactly
this will (or if it will) set up is akin to predicting where a
cluster of thunderstorms will develop 24 hours in advance.
Nevertheless, the potential exists for locally intense snowfall
rates tomorrow, especially across the Piedmont.

WWA have been issued for the CLT metro area.
GSP says WWAs with be issued south of current warnings, I’d assume those will stop at the state line

This is starting to look right. The usual event in NC is snow>sleet>other junk>snow.
Good catch ... in Jasper, GA currently sitting at 42 with DP of 29 ...
Still not expecting anything big here (around 1,400 ft), but Mt. Oglethorpe on the Pickens/Dawson/Gilmer line is over 3,000 ft. Thought about heading up there, but almost got stuck up there on Christmas Eve so don't want to try that again!!
Will say, the anticipation is fun ... of course, with anticipation there is always the probability of disappointment! But at least there is a chance!

This seems in line with the earlier 3km NAM's position of the deform band being favorable for the Sandhills/areas south of Raleigh than the Triangle proper.

@k0skinne I think you will get in on the action in Pickens sitting at 1400'. At least you will be VERY close!
