Tropical Hurricane Isaias

I remember this one well. Sat on the apartment balcony and watched it rain buckets with nearly constant lightning. The wind didn't start really ripping until we almost got on the back side of the system and rain tapered down

Yeah I agree, the wind really didn't pick up in earnest until we got on the backend of the storm, had some of the characteristics of a sting jet w/ evaporatively driven cooling & some cold advection serving to locally enhance downdrafts. I'll be sure to take some videos of this storm tomorrow night.

Hanna was my first tropical experience after moving from Charlotte. Charlotte gets jack diddly squat in terms of tropical weather . I very much remember Hanna ! The girl and the storm .

Hanna is probably my favorite tropical cyclone I've experienced since I've started living here in Fayetteville. A few big trees behind the house snapped and woke me up during the middle of the night, lost power for about 5-6 hours, & the wind was extremely loud. Ironically, Isaias will be striking at virtually the same time of the night as Hanna did.

Bertha might be a good example a well, was literally a POS half a cane until the last 12 hrs or so then went from meh to whoa in 12 hrs.....had gust to 90 mph in Bertha in PGV and actually got a cleared out center and saw blue skies before the backside came in....

Really? I would have thought Matthew or Flo, I remember Hanna as a meh event, peak wind gust maybe 40ish some rain....the last real wind event here was Matthew, Flo and Dorian never gusted over 50 which is what I personally consider the low end wind gust for a decent TC.....and really stuff doesnt start going to hell in earnest until you start hitting 55-60....

MHX being aggressive with forecasting sustained 48 gust to 65 here,

If Isaias picks up a sting jet somehow, I’m definitely chasing that, being in a sting jet is a out of this world experience with the chilling howl above your head like the one I experienced with Michael, just something about that sound that gives chills

I remember Matthew , I was outside the entire time and like and idiot went into the woods . Bad idea all you heard was trees snapping back there , the creek also rose so fast! Never seen a heavy soaking rain like Matthew ! Was outside 10 hours straight , remember I got hit by one wind gust the knocked me really hard back! Thought it was the end !

Woke up next morning no power ! The dam on the little river had burst and roads were down. CNN and wral were reporting from choppers right down the road because some idiots tried to cross the bridge over the river and got swept away. Thankfully they lived ! I still got all the pictures , bikes down to the bridge later on. Some of my friends had no power for close to 2 weeks and had to wear the same underwear for quite some time. My bud had video as well of the power lines bursting into flames !

Hrrr shows widespread thunderstorms tomorrow before the TC makes it here, while low level shear at the time is unimpressive still wouldn’t shock me if there’s a tor or 2

You’re only a few hours from ground zero in central-eastern NC, I would 100% chase this if I was in your shoes haha
