Pattern February Discussion part 3. Don's Winter Storm Hunt

If you want to really see snow, move to Aomori City, Tōhoku, Japan. They average over 300 inches per year, that is 25 feet for those too lazy to do the math :D By comparison, Boston gets an average of 44 inches

I don't think I have ever seen the entire U.S. with absolutely no HP centered over any part of it. As of 7 PM., according to the SPC Mesoscle analysis, the closest thing to HP is the a peice of the Atlantic ridge of pushing up over Fla Ga, Al And Tn.most all of it is less than 1014mb. Only SFla is above1016mb. What a mess!!

para has a Kentucky special next sunday into Monday

You left out Tennessee...looks like east Tenn is better than Kentucky there

I recognize that the Euro is the best model out there, no matter what happened with one storm but I'm cheap, I could care less about paying to gain full access to it. I realize this likely isn't a good idea, especially since I'm not the greatest at reading 500/surface maps but am getting better, but I take after my dad who will be cheap with things.
You should sign up for AccuPro, you'll love it, they have all kind of cool modeling you can view. It's not that expensive either, it's like $20 a month.

and it's free for the first month, so you can finish out winter and cancel at no charge

Not for the southeast, but I would love to be in Iowa.

I used to have accupro but weatherbell is better imo. 24 a month

We ought to just fire up the spring thread! All I see is 60s-80s for the next two weeks+! Sad

Interesting look there at the last hr on the EPS. Too bad, it's at the last hr though.

To those saying about the Euro costing money, generally you aren't just buying access to the Euro. You're buying access to the amazing EPS. and if you use WeatherBell, you will have some of the best/fastest maps around.

Accuwx PRO used to (could still) give raw text data of the Euro model. Which is cool, but Ryan's meteograms and things for the individual EPS members, GEFS, etc are the best.

I tried to use WeatherBell, I don't like how the interface is. Accuwx Pro is easy, you can put any weather model you want all on one page. I agree, WeatherBell has some nice maps. Accuwx has upgraded their maps and they look better than they did. And yup, that's true, most of your money is going towards the Euro EPS and the weeklies, that data is hard to come by with free sites.

Yep everything is popping quickly. Nothing like an early spring green up that will get zapped in a couple of weeks
Yeah this is one of the worse case scenarios for a late season cold snap

Oh, May weather here is more like low to mid 80s, and if we're unlucky, high 80s to low 90s. Today is more like April weather. It felt nice, I'll be honest, especially after a dreary Saturday, and in the sun it almost felt hot.

By the end of May it's pretty much routine summer weather in most of North GA. It seems like we usually have our first 90 degree day in the last 10 days of May.

Are you saying there are signs of major cold on the way in the next few weeks ?
Especially up our way, a March hard freeze is certainly a possibility. In fact I think it happened last year, seems I remember my centipede grass coming out then a big frost and it burned some of it back....had a few bare spots from that

Felt more like late march/early april today with highs in the middle 60s... looks like May weather by mid week with highs near 73-75... average high doesn't reach that high until the last day or April and beginning of May(based off accuweather and weather.com averages). Unreal! Seeing some blooms here, but not as much as others are reporting. My entire subdivisions Bermuda is still dormant thankfully... but it won't be for much longer =/ I can hear the mower now =/

Maybe a grilling thread would be more appropriate? :-D

Where the heck do you live because in GA 73-75 in May would be below normal.

I'm always impressed with the climate across North & Central GA...while some sites (mostly east and south) have had multiple days above 70 this month, I've only had 2. I guess that explains the lack of blooms here verses other areas. I looked up Atlanta and they have had 6, Augusta 10, Cartersville 2, Rome 2, Kennesaw 2, Peachtree City 6...useless information lol. Just found it interesting to see the differences.

Holly Springs.

Averages on both of those sites say otherwise. Not that I am here to debate it, lol, I could careless. That's trivial. Just wanted to include it in my post as either way, it is warm as hell for February. Now after the first week or so in May, yes it would be below normal but it clearly states in my post "end of April/beginning of May" lol.

Yeah, a long time ago, Accuweather bought out the "Weather Model Animator" and turned it into their own thing. I do hope Ryan eventually gets his modeling links laid out better. Anyways, here is an example of the original weather model animator that accuweather have taken control of for their modeling page. At least, it used to be along these lines:

I have the original code/scripts to it and was thinking about setting something up with modeling from tidbits, wxcaster, noaa etc... but it's old now and I think I can do something better with new technologies out there.

Well just remember our "Easster Dreeze" in 2007.. Heavy losses to fruit crops and significant tree defoliation[/QUOTE

There's nothing new under the sun. In the 60's and 70's when we had colder and snowier winters, many, and I many springs, there were fruit crops, especially peaches that suffered losses from frosts after blooming.
