Wintry January 29th-30th ARCC Slam Dunk Winter Weather Threat

FV3 and NAM showing some love here. Guess it is time to turn my attention to this one since the coastal system looks too far east. A solid 2 to 3 inches would be a nice storm.

This is the area to watch over the next 24 for trends . Seems like the best QPF will be in this general area south and east of BHAM

Yeah, most of gefs members are showing love for that area.

GFS gonna pop a low too, I believe! Moisture pooling over LA/MS! About to get GFS’d!

gfs has been pushing things little south each run now, let's see how it plays out.

Closes station to my house is Shelby County Airport(EET).It is almost due west of me by about 28 miles as a crow flies. Right now we are seating 1.16 inch mean. Hope SREF is good at this time frame for this storm and keeps moving up.

For 2” and a NAM/GFS run, I doubt it. SWS at best

I can guarantee you they will be issued with possible travel impacts. 2 inches or more is a winter storm warning in our state. We have been put under a watch, and then upgraded to an advisory or warning several times in the past.

This isn’t up north. 2-3 inches is a big deal.

I believe with HSV, their WSW criteria is 4" but with BHM, it's still 2" for WSW criteria. Based off this run, it'd be a WSW.

Looks like I-85 could separate nada then north maybe a T-1, I doubt CLT will get much of any, nam is showing a lot of Frontogenesis on the lee side of the mountains and 10-40 jkg of sfc cape during the brief burst, could be some hefty rates before it moves out

Another good run for northern half of AL, northwest GA, and east TN but to be honest the trend of zilch creeping further east is making me nervous. Make it stop. View attachment 13795
Yep, I also been saying for a while now that snow line has been crawling south and east a bit to. Gefs members also has been showing this possibility. They starting to look good for central/south Bama.

Yeah i like that trend on the gfs. Not expecting much for us. If we can walk away with a dusting that would be a win

It shows it in the afternoon so accumulating will be tough but just to see 10 mins of snow will be a victory.
