Yeah thanks, but my understanding is we're really not really in a nino officially and the atmosphere is not behaving like one (not coupled). So does that composite really hold value? What's phase 7 in a neutral?

You don't get a persistently strong subtropical jet and narrow Hadley Cells like this when we're not in an El Nino or virtually in one even if some superfluous ONI or SOI definition fails to meet a specified, arbitrarily chosen criteria. The persistent excess tropical and subtropical westerly momentum is evidence of a significant +ENSO base state and the MJO failing to propagate effectively to the Western Hemisphere (phase 8-1) is due to ENSO interference that's most evident when we're in an El Nino.

Some years it just doesn’t want to snow. We had 3 nut numbing cold nights in a row only to wake up this morning to 53 degrees and a flooded yard. I think the angle of cold is off this year. That’s what I’m hanging my hat on

The Earth's orbit around the Sun is not circular. Maybe we're tracking a little too close this winter. :(

Im not sure what everyone is seeing to get so excited, but it looks to me like next weeks event is a nuisance at best with maybe an inch or so ? Whats all the excitement about?
I get it in all honesty. It’s every man for himself at this point. You take what you can get. It’s full on desperation mode which is completely understandable. This winter has been a complete bust any way you slice it. Stink stank stunk

I don’t think we will have a legitimate shot until the northern stream pumps it’s breaks. Literally everything is just so fast and volatile. Every favorable wave we get has to run the gauntlet and it just doesn’t have a chance

this is the south, we don't know how to deal with snow and with the coldest air of winter rushing in, some North Alabama communities could have effects similar to 1/28/14 afterward with just a little snow if the cold is as it looks?

I mean in 14 it was snowing with temps near 20 during the middle of the day. Is it really gonna be that cold this time ?

The cold afterward could make it 1/28/14 like effects with roads screwed up unless the wind takes all the moisture away.

And actually now that I'm looking, yes, in some of the more northern areas it's snowing with it 20-25.

Welp, it's looking like after this dumb cold air chasing moisture crap gets through. That may be our last chance for a while. Good ole cold and dry settles in. This is getting old... Mother Nature looks lost out there and these models are just as lost looking like a freakin seismograph with all the ups and downs they keep fooling us with.
