Pattern December - Deal or No Deal?

sorry those are the best images I could find from a free model website - I can't seem to find regional, contoured maps...

Below is 18z, Sat, 12/8 (per GFS, 06z run today)

Different dynamics but that radar presentation looks similar to jan 1988 when central nc got close to a foot in some areas of mby.

1008mb low off coast of SC. Upstate SC continues to get walloped as well as triad of NC

Major winter storm for western half of N.C. not enough cold for Raleigh to get in it looks like....

Multiple 20”+ snow areas in NC mountains. Snowfall map not as good as I’d thought it would be for Upstate SC....odd cause 850s were fine. Some 24”+ spots near VA NC border

GFS is a nice front end thump of snow here. Heaviest stuff is Sleet/ZR as the LP moves offshore. This is a textbook track for a big dog here in the upstate. Still so far away. Central/western NC taking it on the chin at 180. Wowza

IMO, this is clearly a western NC/Upstate SC storm. You can't really get a high much stronger than that and it's not really showing much down here. I'll be rooting for you guys, but I think I'll be throwing the white towel here for my area.

Unfortunately, our cold is largely departing as the low approaches. Still, odds are for front end snow and big ice storm for places 85 and points west.

One thing I know for sure after living in the Columbia area for six years is that any map that shows CAD into central South Carolina and not the Atlanta area is 100% wrong. If the freezing line is as far south as Newberry County, SC, it will definitely be as far west at the north-northeastern Atlanta suburbs. The NAM will show this when it gets in range and this setup is still in place.

Wishing everyone luck here in Columbia, SC. Don’t think this will be our storm, but hoping down the road, we can get in on the fun.

You should start the thread, you have been much more invested in this event and you are in a much better location than us Raleigh folks. Rooting for you guys, I think you are due.
Thanks! And I agree! But apparently I can’t do it! :(

@Tarheel1 i don’t like this “snow” “rain” multiple choice option. We know how this usually ends around here. Give we a strong wedge with ZR and I’m happy :)

I think there should be a 5 day rule. No thread should be made until it's within 120 hours. So I vote for starting the thread tomorrow.
Due to the modeling, it deserve a thread earlier. Brick said he was planning to create the thread Monday, but it's up to him if he wants to create the thread today.
