To build on the why? Tapatalk opens up southernwx to unnecessary security risks that we wouldn't have otherwise or with our own app. Tapatalk opens you up as a user to unnecessary risks as well, don't be surprised if your info is being used and or sold. Finally Tapatalk is charging you money for a VIP membership to post at our site. Sorry but that doesn't float with us, we aren't charging you to be a member neither should they.

It will be nice if there is a standalone app for southernwx.
 
Would be cool if admins/Mets had their posts automatically shared to the Facebook page to get everyone on the site. Like a teaser for more info/comments. Like a cross post. Working on it bare with me.
 
Yeah, there's a lot of risks with Tapatalk. Thankfully the forum is built to be mobile friendly from the start, although some things are a bit wonky on that front.

We'll be getting everything looking really nice, especially for the mobile page.

As a side note, I have enabled a theme/color I have been working on called "Southern Weather v2.0" in the style chooser (bottom of page, or settings) -- it is very much a work in progress and some things won't look right.. but it is available to use if you're willing to risk it, haha.

I'm fixing/modifying it from time to time currently. Suggestions for the colors are welcome.. again.. some things are not stylized or looking right yet.

Wondering if the new update allowed us to add images to signatures. I don't remember it allowing it before, but I could be wrong.

I have it on for now, unless the imagery gets way too spam-like or large.

You can put BB code/ rich code onto profiles comments etc now.

In fact, the new updates add a lot more than what meets the eye. There's a lot of changes on the back end like JSON parsing, developer tools, speed. For example, recently we were on PHP 7.0, which is End of Life (believe it or not) and now with the upgrade I was able to upgrade the server over to PHP 7.3 since the forum will run on it now. Massive performance increase.

I'm now able to lazy load imagery to keep the bandwidth down, especially for "guests" and "spam bots" hammering the pages and loading the imagery but never viewing. It defers it until it's actually in view port now, instead of on page load.

Basically, lots of optimization is possible, along with a lot of good front end features for our members.

You should make a post going into detail describing the update.

I'm also curious if the limit for gif weight was raised? If not, is this something you would be willing to change in the future?

I have settings in our php ini file to only allow file sizes of 5mb currently as uploads to the server. As we grow and get systems in place, we can likely raise file sizes, but for now, our hosting solution provides us with limited disk space.

For a while, we only allowed links to external images for gifs. We were running into a problem a while back with the "meme" gif spam from just a couple members that were destroying our disk space (non-sense gifs, basically) so we had to lower the upload size. This interferes with weather imagery, so we'll have to come up with a solution for that eventually.
 
Everytime I go to LJS, they end up quadruple frying the fish and it's hard like a rock.

Every. Damn. Time.

The breading here is second to none. Like most things these days though, it’s not as good as it once was but still decent. I could eat it once or twice a year

I know you're still working on 2.0 but thought i'd point out 2 things I noticed.
I did just notice that on v2.0 it shrinks the left column where the poster details are. I noticed when i saw a post from Webber but his name was chopped and the 53 was next lined. His are the only ones i've seen this on so far.

Also it drops message and reaction #'s.

I like the color scheme btw!Post info.JPG

A Southern Weather App would be better than Tapatalk in my opinion.
 
I don't use those apps, still an old fogey with a laptop.. I see zero change in the format, so I guess the changes were for app users only. Everything looks exactly the same as before.

The changes weren't huge....yet but one thing you can do now is hover over the like and you can choose your emotion

Those two issues should be fixed now.
 
Wish we had this look currently and within 5 days of course. Cold air coming in deep and further west tends to hold longer once it reaches us in my opinion.9D487473-04DA-4B68-9412-686C46AD0BA3.png
 
OK, I think I've got a couple of these pictures resized to fit on here. This is the T-Gun we made for snow making. The second shot is of it in action. We may step up our game in the future with multiple nozzles, if it ever gets cold enough again. It definitely worked better under 30F. Once the temps got even close to 32 it quit producing snow. I'm sure it would work great in areas north of us.
