Misc Winter Whamby 2020, a New Decade

Last winter, and so far this winter, is basically the 1991-92 El Nino without the deep south January 18-19, 1992 event.

Yep. Cold air is hard to find. That’s the main issues we have had all winter. Great storm tracks, plenty of moisture but no cold air. You would think we time it right at least one time before the end of winter.

Honestly with all the Miller A rain storms we been getting like @BHS1975 said... I don't see us getting any winter weather at all for the remainder of winter at least for us I-20 folks and South... I just think with winter still yet to start and we keep on grasping at straws hoping that February or March we score honestly the writing and reality has been on the wall for 2 years...

But it's possible that I can be wrong and we do get something but the percentage is very very low just my 2 cents

yeah i've been there a bunch. its probably the most bang for the buck driving from N GA where I am (snow to driving distance ratio) Maggie doesn't get as much snow (at around 3k i think) as you'd think, but, just about a 10 minute drive up the road to where the parkway crosses is Soco gap and it gets a bunch of snow and there's a good place to sled. maybe its in the lee of the mountain i don't know. My daughter and i actually got locked in there April 20th of last year and it started snowing like crazy after they already had got 4 or 5 inches during the day. a little scary, thought we were going to have to spend the night out there, but a local showed me a back way down off the parkway. Goes to show even if its late April always be prepared with sleeping bags, water, etc, if you get off the beaten path. There can easily be 5 or 6 inches on top and just a dusting in the valley where the hotels are. lots of choices. If you are trying to save money, something like Stoney Creek will fit the bill . (went there with my two young sons 10 years ago or so, and we were ok with it especially for the price), and there are plenty of other nice places to stay if you are willing to pay a bit more. Jonathan Creek and Smokey mtn lodge or something like that, both are nice. i think there are also cabins at Cataloochee which is right there up the mountain a bit. Plenty of places to eat too. Joeys pancake house is great but need to check to see if they are open before you plan to eat there.
