Misc Winter Weather Support Group

I mean can you even call this a hobby anymore? You have to get some satisfaction out of a hobby. There is absolutely nothing satisfying about tracking winter in the SE anymore. There hasn't been a single thing to track in over 2 years now. Look how December's have been. With all the Nina's we should have been able to manage some cold in December other than a single 3 day Arctic blast in 2022. But nope. And February? It was just all the Nina's causing the bad February's they said. It'll change this year they said. Nope! Same ---- different year. We'll end up +5 for the month again. It's been time to find a new hobby but this year man finally push some of us out.
I mean just look around at all the land being cleared and all the construction going up. There's no wonder the climate is changing. Anyone should be able to see this and know it's having an affect on our weather. Sadly it is what it is and life goes on. But there's plenty of snow each winter a short drive away from most on this board.

130 temps are a long way away, but it will be very hard to get snow from here on out in the southeast.
But yet keep posting these models about how great the pattern is gonna be coming up and that there's no way we can't snow with the great upcoming pattern. Long and even mid range has sucked for a long time and folks haven't figured it out yet that unless its showing within 3-5 days why even bother. I'm not gonna say it's never gonna snow here again but I will definitely say it's harder and not as likely now days.

Both the GFS and the EURO has a great storm track for us. No cold to be found. I bet even Webb is wondering how we screwed this up.
He never said it would be cold and snowy. He just said it wouldn’t be a torch in the SE and it hasn’t.

He did say he thought the end of feb might have big dog potential. And it actually looked like it might until about a week ago. It’s just amazing how bad we suck.

I remember him saying about how great the pattern was gonna be the end of Feb and that would be the best shot at seeing Snow. Doesn't look like neither is gonna work out

I've tried to find something to hang my hat on from the overnight runs. Sadly, can not.

We've lost the stout +PNA which delays and mutes the previously forecasted artic high dropping out ahead or in tandem with the 18th system. Experience tells me that artic highs in the medium range forecast usually are overdone and once the modeling loses the look, it's not coming back.

Maybe we can throw a hail mary with a major SSWE, but as of now, the long-range ensembles scream our hoped-for winter's end pattern is quickly becoming the end of winter.

You don't have to go that far really to find places that will consistently get Winter weather like the NC mountains or up into WV.

I am grateful for the lower temps as long as possible...lows in the 70's will be here before we know it.

I do think we have a "cool" spring.

If you want a good laugh this morning, the majority of the Carolinas don’t get 850’s below freezing once from the beginning of the run til about hour 340..so epic

At this point I don't even care. Bring on 70s. Tired of cold miserable rain. If you're going to break records you might as well do it right. 1000+ day snowless streaks incoming throughout the Carolina's is almost certain at this point.

Yeah I guess not torching and trees not leafing out already is a win these days.

Best advice for y’all, and for myself, is to just go outside & enjoy the weather today. Especially if you live in the Carolinas. Highs in the 70s. Just enjoy what’s in front of us. We just suck rear end at Winter right now & there ain’t a thing we can do about it. Yall have a great Saturday!

Here's my pattern change:

Basically back to around normal but without any freezes. Maybe it's time to accept many of us are complete failures at winter anymore. I cannot believe it has been almost 2 years since AVL had any measurable snowfall. Even places like Boone having a rough go.

This map here is truly amazing and tells the tale... where is the snow?

Trough west/ snow west

Who would've thought you would start up with your GW post again? Pretty wild

Just funny how folks are expecting the same results from a different climate. There were palm trees at the north pole when the climate was 5C warmer and we are at 1.5 now. You can extrapolate from there.

On the bright side I have to imagine every year we go without snow is a year closer to another blizzard of 93 scenario or at least a very good winter. Eventually something has to reverse course. It has to happen again. Right?

Yes but as the years go on the deck is stacked more and more against us.

Why is everyone so sure winter is over all the sudden. So we had a day or 2 of lousy rums but weeks before of awesome runs including Euro weeklies. These opps can be 30 degrees different anytime from 6+ days out in one run. I bet nothing has really changed and were seeing mid range model chaos. Could be just them trying to figure out the ssw event.

Also, I'm tired of all the GW posts in here. Places in the mid south received extreme cold and 4 to 500% of their average snowfall this year so, yes it can still and eventually will snow.

Yall have a good day, I’m
Not out on next weekend (For NC/VA) …..My dad always told me a saying growing up….. “Son worry about what you can change, keep your head down and keep working and eventually the sun will shine on every dogs ass at some point” At some point everyone will be lucky, but don’t worry about it bc we can’t change it either way.

Every year now it's Russian roulette with a big chunk of the PV diving way south. This wasn't our year.

The fact that winter is over in 19 days is probably one reason why people feel winter is over.
I know we say that for met winter but it can snow up until April with obviously reduced chances as we progress through March. I know some of you are further south than me but at least here in the NC we still have decent snow chances until March 15th or so. Thats more the date I hang it up here. If the models look bleak March 10th or so, then yes I'm done. That gives me 1 month left to score.
