Misc Winter 22-23 Whamby and Banter Thread Part 2

I looked it up myself, so apparently the tallest public building in Charlotte you can be on top of the is the Fahrenheit rooftop restaurant, which is about only 310 feet off the ground. Idk if that would make enough difference.
Fahrenheit is a cool spot.

The elevation of the building where Fahrenheit is located, that ground level is around 709 feet. You’d be roughly at the same elevation as Cherryville at the top of Fahrenheit. BofA tower would get you to just about Asheville elevation but it isn’t public. The jukebox building might be cool too - I’m pretty sure I’ve noticed it has some observation ledges when I’ve stayed at the Hilton.

Back in the day, you could just take the elevator right up to just about the top floor of BofA.

I used to go to boa tower for meetings. Pretty strict security. Need to get access badge to get to elevators. Don't think they let anyone in that doesn't have a business need.

It's crazy to think that building gets you up to Asheville elevation.

I do remember this. Don't think we had much if any ice at surface that day

I'm saving this for Sunday. I'll believe it when I see it ?
We’ll know even earlier than that. If there’s no changeover happening across NW GA late Sat. Night to around midnight. Red flags should be raised. Personally, I’m not on board yet, I’m just watching and waiting. Serious boom or bust potential to the highest degree.

Meanwhile this happened 50 yrs ago…

I mean there's a reason Atlanta hasn't had a big storm in so long and also the airport location doesn't help ? even 93 only had 4 inches

It's literally been 40 years since the Atlanta airport recorded 6" from a storm. Will this be the storm that finally breaks that streak ?

It’s really sad and incredible the top notch level of a screw job that takes place down there compared to the rest of the city. Last time I saw more than 4 inches of snow was during that December 2017 storm when I got 5. I had doubts about that one too, felt like it took forever to changeover, but once it did it was puking snow like crazy didn’t take long to quickly accumulate despite never dropping below 33-34 during and after the snow tapered off.

I'm hanging on by a European thread

I was gonna say the 6z gefs gave me some false hope but then realized it was only 2 members, one that went bonkers with the front end stuff followed by the deform band holding longer and one member that held that deform band through here.... so for mby, meh. Good luck to the rest of you with this chance of snow in Springuary

Man models looked great when I went to bed last night, now they look like crap

I'm gonna be honest and I think RC mentioned this before too, but for some reason here of late, the 6z model suites have robbed us of hope while the 12z model suites tend to trend favorably. Of course it's almost go time and that may not happen, but don't be shocked to it improve with the 12z just to pull the rug later lol. Probably absolutely nothing to it but it does seem that way lately

The deform band is the ultimate wildcard either way. It wouldn’t take much for it to overperform for a lot of us and make a memorable event out of this for a lot of us. Of course, it probably won’t, but they’re notoriously difficult to predict (February 2014, for example).

No snow here from this little wave and tbh it's not even cold enough anyway... Only 36 at the airport

Oh boy you mention Feb 2014, I had 20 inches total with that storm. But 11 of that fell in 4 hours that morning under that deform band.

Yep although you certainly have a much higher probability of that then this far east. If I just see a few flakes or pingers I'd be happy

I almost booked a cabin in NC. Just cancelled all of my plans after seeing the NAM. I'm so glad I waited until the 12Z runs. Now to turn my attention to the severe threat next week. Good luck all who live in the Pisgah National Forest!
I almost booked one too. But I think I’ll wait.

12z NAM just served up a big pile of disappointment for a lot of folks. you can NEVER trust that stupid NAM when it gives you big snows...
