Misc Winter 22-23 Whamby and Banter Thread Part 2

it was low of me tbh, i spent years growing up in wilmington in fear of the raleigh guys being happy and then years in raleigh fearing the roanoke guys being happy. now i am laughing from richmond. die a hero or live long enough to see yourself become the villain

I get it. I grew up along 85 in Gaston County and I would hate it when the Lenoir crew were happy. Don’t even get me started on seeing all the mountain and foothill school cancellations.

Now I’m seven miles north of 85 and only nine miles from the TDF airport, which seems to be golden goose of the piedmont.

This will be the first winter I've blanked on accumulations since 2012/2013 if it comes to fruition. Really paid for the epic 2010/2011 winter with back to back horrible winters. Last winter was the best since 2010/2011 so maybe this and next year are screwed.
 
That being said... there's still lots of time. Looking back at my notes, Feb 11-16th has been a great timeframe for winter storms here over the last 15 years.

Meanwhile here we haven't had a good snow since Feb 2020, it's been awhile. All "storms" have been an inch or less here since.

Got an extra 1/4 inch of back end snow early the next morning.

Temp started at 44 and just didn't drop fast. HRRR nailed warm nose and low level temps. short range models were a little too wet, showed .5-.8 and i got .4
Feb 6, 20211.75-232.2Miller a with -3 850s but warm boundary layer, started off as rain and 39 wetbulb, heavy rates flipped it to snow. Hrrr nailed transition and precip maxima, nam was way too warm at surface and too quick with warm nose and too dry.

I think I've had a half dozen dustings or 1/2" or less since that one and thats it.

I got this last year. I also got .2 inches on 12/27/2022. So apparently I’m doing better than most around here.

I am 32 years old. If I live to be let’s say 80, does anyone here think I’ll see another storm like the blizzard of 93? Better yet does anyone think I’ll ever see more than 5 inches of snow from a storm again.

So you blanked 11-12 and 12-13 back to back?

I know some where around that timeframe there was a storm where we had a winter storm warning and I wound up with maybe 1/4 inch of sleet accumulation and that was it... that one isn't recorded on my sheet b/c i'm not sure when it happened and can't find it in any photos. I didn't start keeping up with the sheet until 5-6 years ago so the entries before that were from memory or photos/facebook posts.
