Misc Stock Market

Market looking fairly extended now...but we've seen these push higher and higher. I bought some TQQQ on the 10:30am dip and some SPY...sold the TQQQ at 85 from roughly 83 and will hold SPY to have something on.

HOOD breaking out...still haven't trimmed any from $18.

Fairly classic bullish pattern/breakout...chart says its see $23-24 and probably where I will sell a bunch.

Well I feel like an idiot...I think I sold this at $21 from $18 thinking I was a rock star...but rather a complete idiot! It's at $50 now...

It did drop to $14 on the Japan selloff in July but still...

So I put $500 on X back when it was $5 years ago. Opened an E-trade account on the app and have barely played with anything since. I sold some to buy other stocks but I haven't invested anymore money since then. I want to invest another $1k as I begin to learn trading. Any suggestions on where to start would be great. I would like to keep reinvesting any profit and buy more as I become confident in what I am doing. I've followed you guys for years but have never been able to make much of the terminology being used or the graphics. That's how green I am.

Long term you can’t go wrong any of the magnificent 7 stocks, SPY and QQQ for good solid growth. Depends on your risk tolerance. I moved a lot to crypto but it is volatile.

Took some of this today at $24.90...it's been beaten down so bad. Hoping a test of $27.50-$28. Stop is at low of day.

SPX battling 6100...is it really just going to plow through that. SPX been trading in this channel for several months now. Really seems like it's going to breakout and go...but there has to be a lot of tax selling left to do but I guess that can wait until March.

We may actually see the 6200ish (6300 tops) I thought could occur to open the year into the middle of next month and then my guess is that volatility starts unless folks have caught on to the possible new year effect adjustment issue in inflation numbers.

Edit: will admit that I’m not sure it’ll be an issue again. Haven’t had the time since winter has been interesting for a change.

Up a $1 on this...I really think this could see $40 this year sometime...going to be patient with it. Avg is $24.90 and have a healthy position. It does need to base for a few weeks though...

Futs down big. The China AI news that came out and our president is threatening to tariff any country that doesn’t bow to him.

Lot of tax selling before April. Curious to see how that evolves.

Holy smokes…I did add a bunch of TQQQ at $77. Not sure what my plan will be for the day. I will give it a little room. This seems a little over done for a Monday morning.

Going to hold this TQQQ as long as NQ holds 21k...back in August we had a similar huge gap down on a Monday for the Japan/carry trade and that day it could bought at open and took off. I don't think we see a push back to ATH's for a while but I think we see some of this 4% gap down bought.

It's always curious when you get weird DeepSeek AI news out of China they can do AI stuff much cheaper and thus bursting the AI bubble with NVDA/AVGO.

Closed this out at 78.80...very nice quick swing. I had also bought some SPYU at 48.20....will let that work. I don't think today was the low for the week.

Finally, Nvidia starts to tumble.

These guys were overvalued and it's not just deepseek's open source release, that proves Nvidia is gouging, in fact nvidias new 5xxx series coming out is a complete rip off and most people aren't buying into them. Double whammy.

Qs tried to make a new intraday high but failed...let's see. I only have some SPYU on now from 48...been a great day.

I feel like we are heading lower over the coming weeks but this market sometimes just wants to go up.

META at ATHs...huge bullish engulfing candle. Earnings this week.

Screen Shot 2025-01-27 at 11.09.05 AM.png

NVDA down 21% from Fridays open...thats about $700B in market cap, size of Walmart/JPMorgan. Its been treated as fraudulent....

Screen Shot 2025-01-27 at 11.34.39 AM.png

NVDA is probably very buyable as a day/swing trade still, but it you're just going to buy and hold for the most part, it's going to be a broken stock until folks like the Banana Man from X have the fear of God in them about the stock.

When everyone, their mama, and their grandma is bullish on a stock, you have to think about the possibility of there being some issues, but my thesis had been something else (great instead of stellar earnings hammering it). The actual catalyst here is dumb and there have been thoughts this was done on smuggled NVDA GPUs.

Also thoughts the people behind it are shorting NVDA.

This is why I sold TQQQ quickly this morning...took the quick swing and got out of the way. So much selling in tech that could be done...so much profit taking for tax selling will come.

If they push below $510 before close...and tonight could be scary again. This could be a start of a waterfall below $500.

This just hanging around...I don't have the warm fuzzies about this but stop is set. Bought at $24.90'ish.

Reason...right at a huge volume shelf...and this is dumb it's down this much. We can't trust anything coming out of China.

Deepseek is 100 free, open source, can be modified as you see fit, and installed on personal offline hardware for no data privacy issues

They even had a low end version running on a raspberry pi over the weekend

The thing with the Nvidia plunge is the cost that companies are claiming vs the reality of cost. Deepseek was created on a tiny budget and is proof of concept it's possible to make a pretty good model run on lower end hardware.. fractions of hardware.

Either Nvidia and the rest fall in line and finally admit that a lot of people are lining pockets on false promises vs reality or they lower their prices.

In simple terms, openai/startups and Nvidia are ripping investors off.

I might talk out my ass a lot, but this is something I do have knowledge about.

A majority of AI "tech" is bloated beyond reason in general. From what I see, they're selling garbage and the tent is starting to leak. Look at what it is at its core and it's nothing more than a data compiler that can put together information. If anything, the expensive hardware is likely just being used to train models in a distributed fashion.

It's been years and a majority of these companies have just chatbots, uncanny media generators, and text generators. If they don't step their game up there'll be a huge tech crash again soon, and not years soon, months soon.

This is just Chinese market manipulation. Highly doubtful they did it on that budget. Also the stuff companies are working on here is light years beyond that.

They trained the model with such a low amount of cash vs openai for example.. like single mils vs 100 mills

I have the model running on my pc right now, offline, privately. It's a distilled form of course, so it's not the monster 670b+ parameter version, but its definitely already replaced chatgpt, gemini, and copilot for me, personally, already. Especially when it comes to using "thinking logic" in what it comes up with and code generation is great.

The whole point though is, a lot of companies are selling bs to investors and the head of that monster is NVIDIA.. who as a company, used to make graphics cards for games.

The new 5xxx series chips are a complete rip over the 4xxx series.. The founders edition baseline is 2k and the better pcb and cooling ones are into the 2.5k + range... it's insane what they're trying to get away with all in the means of "ai". I am glad the stock tumble is happening right before those cards hit the shelves.

It's not just Deepseek dropping the stock.. it's consumer sentiment of feeling like they're being taken advantage of.. because the details of the 5xxx series was pretty quiet until the reviews and initial test units got sent out late last week/weekend. It's a double whammy, it just happens to be that Deepseek delivered the largest blow in the news.

I've got to get out of this thread. This is something I actually know about since I've been doing PC hardware for 25+ years and know extremely intimately from GPU to machine learning. I will just leave this:

NVIDIA got exposed for overcharging consumers for video cards along with startup companies asking for more money than they actually need in the name of "AI".

I’m not denying it’s a big move but you can never trust what the Chinese say and you have no way to know that they did it at that budget. It’s a game changer if it’s all true and done at that price.

We'll find out soon enough since it's open source. Companies are going to run it themselves and see the compute cost to train it and either a) be able to report that it was a complete lie or b) show that it was true. The methodology they used can be replicated with anyone with a few mills to test.

The most likely case is that this was on stolen GPUs. We’ll probably never know for sure though.

It does show that it’s very possible the winner involving AI will be open source though, and while that leans more towards software right now stock wise, that would probably be good for AMD more than NVDA.
