Agree. There are things we say today that we might be scrutinized for a generation from now, and we will have no clue now that there was anything inherently wrong about it at all.

I’m down for removing confederate statues; I think it’s ridiculous we have prominent statues of traitors up in this country, anyways. But I agree with regards to statues of Thomas Jefferson, George Washington, etc. The extremists who also want to tear those down disturb me...very Maoist.

I don't see anything wrong with burning masks in protest. It sure pales in comparison to the other protest we see where people are destroying buildings, homes, looting, starting fires, beating up cars, and killing others in the name of civil rights. Burning masks is a much more reflective method of making a statement that's consistent with its purpose. Looting does nothing to solve police brutality. Just makes the statement that they're even more needed.
 
Confederate monuments should be ok too in private yards. Throw all the monuments together I sure ain’t wasting my time visiting them lol

Other than you disagreeing with the COVID response for whatever reason (which has been basically the same as most every state) what else makes Cooper evil? As for Forrest, we already know all the stuff he was in support of while Lt. Governor including the bathroom bill to know he'd be bad for this state. I don't need someone extreme like him running the show, especially if he kept a willing GA along with him. He'd mess things up big time.

Well, yeah, on private property they’re certainly fine. I mean we have a freaking statue of Lenin up on private property in Seattle, for example.

I specifically left out Confederate monuments, I'm in favor of them going down. However, monuments to Revolutionary war heroes, explorers, former presidents shouldn't be torn down.
 
Money should go to better needs. Why have monuments in Boone when they lack broadband internet access for workers/young people at home? I’m not ok with the majority throwing $$ and my $$ on monuments.

Don’t forget about amendment 1 that N.C. voters passed overwhelmingly 61-39% but was thrown out in court. N.C. is still largely conservative.
 
Political toxic waste. Much as I love trump I don’t want to pay for his monument. How about hiring an extra teacher to reduce to English high school class of 35 to 25?

You have statues, roads, schools, buildings named after confederate soldiers.....The list goes on. Where does this nonsense stop? They now want to rename military bases for Christ sakes.

True, although the Lenin statue has been frequently vandalized and disgraced, which shouldn't happen on private property.

I think we should name roads with numbers and letters only. But I could see how names of objects would be ok, as long as it's not like Slavery Street or Klan Corner or Pogrom Place.

The head scratcher for me is the anguish people claim these statues bring about. I call complete BS on that or we have truly raised a generation of wussies. Same thing with the confederate flag. Its just nonsense
 
The whole dumping the statues and monuments thing and trying to shove the history of the country in a drawer is really dumb, IMO. Normal people don't visit these statues or monuments and worship them or, on the other side of the coin, feel like they're oppressed because they are there. We really need to regain some perspective and drop the extremism.

I agree with you. But I'm for smaller government so, privatizing statues and monuments sounds good to me. We can't allow a minority of bad actors to sway our elected officials. You're allowed to be offended and cry out at the street corner. You should never be allowed to vandalize and commit crimes. Government officials should not unilaterally decided to appease a minority of offended people. They should put it to a vote. This authoritarian power trip needs to come to an end.

white people don't have a history of being subservient and slaves in the US. Those two figures are based off of that stereotype.
Why do some of you guys care if the names of those two brands are changed? It’s not that they are being forced to. It’s a voluntary rebranding.
