Pattern October '22

Absolutely perfect fall feel right there!
Our average isn’t 50s till December . You need to pack your bags and head up I-95 I-77 or I-85 north for 10 hours if this is what you expect for October . October is glorious sunny 70s . Bring back the sun, many months of dreary weather coming our way .

Close, I’ll be in Plattsburgh NY for the last week of October, about 12hr drive. I’d hate to see us average below normal for Oct & Nov only to be ridging like a boss once Winter starts. October though is technically the start of fall around these here parts, and I saw some evidence of leaf change yesterday on 264/64 to the triangle.

Cover crops still need some 70-80’s to get established, they are not done yet, heck, Christmas week is usually good for atleast one 70F day.

It’s 2 weeks early for leaf change . Earliest I’ve seen it personally . Not sure how much is drought stress versus trees changing though.

This early week time period will have some real potential to be impressively cold. Low developing off the mid Atlantic coast will help with backside stiff NE wind across the state.. add in clouds a bit of rain on occasion along with lower dew points.. sheesh .. that’s going to have a lot of people double checking the calendar date

We've had temps mostly in the 80s with low humidity and mostly clear skies for the past week, and it will continue for another week.

Can't get more top shelf than that. Only some weirdo could hate this weather

Current Obs..

62F
pressure 29.93 in
Visibility 9 miles
Clouds Cloudy
Dew Point 58 F
Humidity 84 %

It looks like some areas outside the mountains may see their first frost of the year next weekend
Yep. 3 weeks early to for the southern foothills if it verifies this coming weekend. Last time we had a frost freeze this early you have to go back to the first week of October 2014. Been awhile.

First 30s of the season possible this weekend. We’re certainly trying to get to fall much faster than recent years. I’m sure we will have a bounce back time period of 80s but the signs are encouraging for a legit fall when fall is suppose to be felt.

We may literally go an entire month without a drop of rain. It's been 20 days so far and counting.
I had .63 total the whole month of September. Looking dry here the next 10 plus days! October averages over 3” per month, so one of our wetter months of the entire year! ?

From RAH:

***
The weekend/early next week will feature surface ridging building
across the area along with below normal temperatures and continued
dry conditions. Highs will reach the low/mid 60s, with lows generally
in the upper 30s to lower 40. Some of this morning`s 13Z NBM
guidance is hinting at mid 30s Sunday morning along the NC/VA border
under ideal radiational cooling conditions. Too early to be certain
of an early-season frost but this will need to be monitored
.
