The eruption was heard 6000 miles away in Alaska. This is more proof that the pressure wave did in fact circle the globe.

Per this satellite image it appears there had been a couple of other eruptions on the 14th. This seems to have fractured the island. My question is did that allow sea water into the lava dome that then created a massive steam explosion?

After reviewing the damage it's thought that one of the outlying tonga islands saw a tsunami with a height of 49 feet.
Did they ever come up with a VEI rating?

From what I saw it was a 6 but that's what Wikipedia showed so idk how valid it is.

Vei 5 is the best guess at the moment and the ash column went 35 miles.up. ill.try to.find and.post the article
