Tropical Major Hurricane Irma (Part 2)

I also found it interesting some of the wording for my town when I click on details about the TS Warning. It says " To be safe, prepare for the potential of limited wind impacts". Does anyone else find that wording a bit strange ?

Yeah...sounds like more of a CYA from the weather service...not quite sure if they have the inland wind impacts nailed down yet.

To be fair the US has never had two Cat 4 landfalls in a season from the Atlantic

so why start now lmao
Should be a reminder to us all that the GFS grossly over strengthens tropical systems . Even yesterday it still had a sub 900mb yet here we sit with above 930, 30knt shear and an open eye wall

Its a good thing for the US that there are several barriers in the way of most hurricanes, including Cuba, Haiti, etc. Can you imagine how many cat 4/5 hurricanes would hit the US if those countries didnt exist ?

...IRMA MAKES LANDFALL AT CUDJOE KEY IN LOWER FLORIDA KEYS...

The center of Hurricane Irma made landfall at Cudjoe Key in the
lower Florida Keys at 9:10 am EDT. A gust to 106 mph (171 km/h)
was just reported at the National Key Deer Refuge in Big Pine Key.

Im confused about why there is a gap in between the areas under a TS Warning in GA. Atlanta is under a TS Warning, then further south there are a couple rows of counties not under a warning or watch, including where Tony lives. Then south of there, there is once again a TS Warning for Macon and Columbus. Does anyone know why ?
No worries. I'll get some wind here too, lol. I'm doing my best to whammy the whole thing away, but I don't have much hope of success, lol. T

I thought recon would go until the mainland landfall part.

thought so too, and thought they were flying out of Biloxi which wouldn't need to be evacuated?

Not sure what's up

but in any case it looks to be running east of track which would bring it inland around Naples this afternoon
