Tropical Major Hurricane Helene

When comparing to the pre-Helene low SLP records of all time for any month and from any kind of system (see below), it looks like new all-time record low SLPs have likely been established by Helene in/near the corridor from the FL Big Bend through the GA cities (and vicinities) of Valdosta, Warner Robbins, Macon, Milledgeville, and Athens. Helen, GA, probably just missed its record. The prior records were Idalia of 2023 (1049 mb) in the FL Big Bend and mainly from the 3/13/1993 “Storm of the Century” for the listed GA cities:

Greene County #tennessee - Water plant "Unsalvageable" per report. Plan for a water Emergency that may last weeks. #tnwx

Statement from water department.

"This has been a historical, unprecedented event. Last night, our intake structure was enveloped by the Nolichuckey River. As most know, the Greeneville Water Commission supplies water to Greeneville and the majority of Greene County through five utility districts. Our intake structure is how we pump water from the river to the treatment plant. It was totally submerged. After the water receded today. We discovered that there is not much, if anything salvageable at our pumping station. We have a supply at our plant but it was quickly being used due to circumstances out of our control. We have storage tanks in our system as do the utility districts. At 2 pm today we turned the pumps off at our treatment plant that feeds the distribution system. The water in the storage tanks is what is left. This should be a 24 hour supply under normal conditions.
We are having emergency pumps delivered tomorrow but these things take time. We have to configure piping to our existing infrastructure to get it to our plant which is a few miles away.
We are working incessantly, around the click, to do all we can do as is all of our utilities and first responders.
Please be kind and patient. We have families that we are not able to go home to right now either.
With all of the misinformation, I wanted you to hear it from the horse's mouth ( or as some might say another part of horse anatomy). We do not know how long we will be without water. It is not an if but a when. We are hoping for a week to when we can start pumping. Please give us time and please pray for our community"

Operation AirDrop out of Texas is mobilizing to drop supplies to the flooded areas of the southern Appalachians.

Our operations base is now set up at Concord Regional Airport, where we will begin accepting flights for donations starting tomorrow, Sunday, September 29th, 2024. We anticipate full-scale flight operations beginning on Monday, September 30th.

Volunteer pilots, please start preparing for Monday's launch! Multiple destinations have already been identified, with the largest being Asheville Regional Airport (AVL). We are also working to reach additional locations that have significant need, including remote areas where rotor operations will be essential.

Gas emergency in South Georgia and Florida- FL residents are coming into Georgia to buy gas. The lines at the gas stations along I75 are surreal. 1/2 to 1 mile long can be seen all the way up to Cordele. Locals are going west to Moultrie and Thomasville to get gas for vehicles and generators.

That was 1.38 million Friday morning. Crazy as we have entire counties that look like they have been knocked from the electric grid

The silence from Govt in DC and espeacilly Raleigh for WNC is really gnawing me as I sit here with power, food, water and in dry clothes. I cant post videos from folks up there pleading for help. Not like you can get in a car and drive down I 26 to upstate SC and Find abundance of Gas to get back,Groceries etc. You sure aint driving North,East or God forbid west toward TN. Guess when Monday rolls around and everyones weekend is over, they will direct the taxpayer services that regions way.
Its monumental. Gotta get roads opened first, so you can get help up there. Sorry for the rant. But my eyes see what they see and ears hear what they hear from to many diff folks.

The death toll from this when they start cleaning in earnest is going to be bad. It literally is like a bomb went off..... They need emergency help bad

This is the 2002 December ice storm times 10 for western NC and upstate SC. Even now I know multiple folks who couldn’t even get cell phone service north of the Columbia area. An area of 3-4 million basically cut off from the outside world.

And the Panthers are playing at home against the Bengals this particular weekend just like they did in 2002. What a coincidence.
I completely forgot that. They won that game 52-21. Steve Smith got a receiving, rushing and return TD.
