Tropical Major Hurricane Florence

Eric could we see some bands develop in the eastern midlands and southern midlands in SC some models showed the bands developing?

I don't see much rain occurring south of the I-20 corridor, may see some isolated banding & intense showers w/ afternoon heating otherwise don't expect much very prolonged, area-wide rain south of Columbia or Florence.

Then you should be thankful instead of complaining.

Agreed. I have family in Jacksonville without clean water and no electricity for days, they can’t get out because of power lines and trees blocking their driveway/road and have enough food to last only a few more days. Some in Jacksonville that I know lost their entire home because the roof leaked and water poured in ruining everything.

Well the low appears to be further SW than most models had besides the Euro. Surprised? Nope.
I’m still surprised at the lack of rain imby, but of course the models nailed that since about Thursday!

I didn't know you moved to Charlotte. Maybe you will have a better chance at winter storms compared to Fayetteville this winter.

The climatology here is slightly worse than where I've been in Raleigh for the last 4 years but you're definitely right in that I've got a better shot at winter storms, granted there will almost assuredly be disappointment.

That infamous Raleigh snow hole is going to follow you down there, watch lol

Oh absolutely I'm well aware haha, the Charlotte-RDU corridor is often on the dividing line between haves and have nots in a majority of cases and this has usually been the case even in the early 20th century.

HRRR suggests Charlotte will stay in the thick of this moderate rain for at least the next 8-10 hours, we're already under a Flash Flood Emergency and the roads are rapidly deteriorating around here. Storm total is around 6" thus far near UNCC, we'll probably close in on 10" or so when all is said & done.

I hope your interests in Lumberton and Raleigh are faring better than most. I've seen your posts here and follow you on Twitter. Hopefully our paths will cross in the coming years, I'm looking at State and UNCC for transfer spring of 2020, fall of 2019.

Back on track, I'm back under a FF warning here in Chatham, still have power miraculously, and the local police/deputies are having to chase off kayaker's from the Haw River. The flooding impacts have yet to be fully realized yet I still have local friends bitching about overhype and getting mad at me for how seriously my own posts have been worded. I would bet money this will be the costliest storm in NC history.

The Triangle has fared a lot better than the rest of the state. We got lucky that the track shifted and avoided us here like it was originally forecasted. I have never seen a hurricane do this before, where it hits eastern NC, then goes around the rest of the state and to the mountains. Just bizarre.

This area will likely get into the raleigh area later today

Also models keying in on a heavy band overnight cutting right through central part of the state, maybe that will be flo's parting shot but could be intense.

This board has given me more insight and topics to study/issues to dwell on than any other source to date. My heartfelt thanks go out to all of you, and I hope to one day offer even a fraction of the insight and information you all have. Including you Phil!

You could fill half a thimble, on a good wet day, with what I know ... but it's fun! ... :D

Well, the Cinnabon finally opened in our mall, so I will always think of Florence, while eating my six pack! Weekend success!

The band many in central NC are concerned about wrt dumping considerably more rain later this evening or early in the overnight is getting its act together now over Scotland & Robeson counties.

Tbh I think we ended up with a compromise between models. As while the other models were too far north, they were right to show less rain south. Picked up .32" yesterday and the Euro was showing 1-2" fairly close to go time.

Looks like there is rotation with the storm in southern Chatham and Wake.

Already had a couple of tornado warnings, too.
