Wintry King Kong Winter Storm Potential Feb 13th-16th

I will say this for those of us in central AL, particularly in places like Birmingham, we've got some pretty heavy rain headed our way. If it drops a decent amount of rain, it becomes less likely that it will all dry up before we get below freezing. That could mean a more significant black ice situation for tomorrow morning.

Winds were out of NE for like 20 minutes and now shifted back to NW. Wouldn’t be surprised if we get hit harder here in in northern Madison County. Schools here have already closed for tomorrow

I just dropped 2 degrees in a few minutes. Watching the PWS just to my west at 32

Austin just got it's biggest snowstorm since 1949! Widespread 4-6 inch amounts. Historic Mongolian sfc high = historic Madrid snowfall. Historic Alaskan sfc High = Historic Austin, San Antonio, and Houston snowfall.

The super-hyped SSWE did it's job this winter even if it didn't affect my area.
I thought Austin had like 6" not long ago ?

Got up to 49 degrees, in SW Jefferson near the Tuscaloosa Co line, during the heavy rain we experienced earlier. Less than 25 minutes later I'm back down to 43. Crazy to watch the temperature rapidly rise and then fall like that.

I don't think the models have a good handle on the location, depth, or movement of this airmass. There may be a number of people who end up getting surprised by a brief changeover that causes significant travel issues or a major black ice issue due to how quickly the temp may drop below freezing before roads and other surfaces can dry out.
