Wintry King Kong Winter Storm Potential Feb 13th-16th

We're getting to that time of day where if there's going to be any convective enhancement, it will commence soon.

Temperature still dropping here too. Down from 27 to 26. Airport seems to be holding steady at 28. The airport might get above freezing today but I doubt it will where I am.
Still dropping down to 25. We’re definitely not getting to 32 today. We might not even get out of the 20s today which might increase the chances of seeing teens tonight if the winds/clouds aren’t as big of a factor tonight. Airport hasn’t budged past 28 for the past 3 hrs.

Yeah, gone from 28 at 7am to 23 currently. Crazy how this cold has over performed. Now if we could just get the snow to cooperate...

We'll have to see if anything happens with this colder air aloft. Not sure how to tell if there's enough unstable air to stoke convective activity or not. But we can be damn sure its cold enough around 5000 ft off the ground.

Returns are starting to fizzle to our NW. So freaking predictable. ?

Finally up to 24 with light flurries falling. Some residual moisture from the snowpack to my north and west must be causing this low cloud deck to be preventing sunshine. At this rate my high will end up in the 20s for today.

Really stoked for the bama folks. My wife didn’t understand why I was so excited last night about the much lighter but 13 degree snow after the big event earlier in the day. To get snow and sleet this week with temps so cold will be one I remember for a long time. It’s rare to get snow in the single digits here but it happened this morning!
edit: The flakes look different at much colder temps almost like stars.

So I picked up at least another half inch overnight into this morning for a total of 5 inches maybe a tick higher. Low temp was 9.7 degrees. For my area the euro really Nailed it as it was consistently showing the higher totals While other models backed off a lot. The cold won out in the end on the back end of the storm. Also was shocked after the dry slot happened and then filled in agin because That has never happened that I can remember. At the time only 3 inches of sleet had fallen and I thought that was it.

Just for perspective on how impressive the cold was at DFW airport this morning... The airport didn't exist last time it was that cold at the official Dallas site...

That's what happens when a huge chunk of the PV breaks off and comes straight down right over you. Seems like a yearly thing now.

The sun will come out and then a few minutes later the snow picks up. Crazy! Yeah, I wonder why it’s melting when it’s way below freezing.
The sun will melt snow even with temperatures in the teens. It’s even worse on asphalt and darker surfaces, which absorbs solar radiation more effectively. I think a 40 degree cloudy day oftentimes is better for maintaining snowcover than 25 degree sunny day. However, even on a cloudy day solar radiation will play a role to some degree.

What a nice surprise this morning. For the first time in the three winters since we bought this house in McCalla AL, our little farm was solid white for a while. Bent Brook Golf Course behind our property was absolutely beautiful as well. Wish it had been more, but I will not complain.

Still at 28 and overcast at my location. If the skies don't clear up soon, I'm not getting above freezing, or possibly even out of the 20s, today. NWS forecast high of 37 looks to be a bust.

I’m enjoying this beautiful 60 degree day at RDU, but my station is still 26.5F back home with yet another dusting on the deck. Yippee
