Wintry King Kong Winter Storm Potential Feb 13th-16th

I'm SW of Birmingham in between BHM and TCL. I've actually seen my temp rise to 37-38 after being at 36 about half an hour ago. Make of that what you will.

Fully expect kbmx to drop the watches and add winter weather advisories for black ice tomorrow night and light freezing drizzle as the system lifts out

Agree, other than a few models runs late yesterday that peaked our hopes this was never a significant event for the Birmingham area.

As for ground truth...my low was forecast to be 35 F°. You make the call...

Current temps are irrelevant with the WAA blasting northward tomorrow

I’ve been saying it for 2 days, and will reiterate it none last time. This is going to end up a non-event for AL with the exception of the extreme NW counties. Even HSV/Madison County looks like they will get blasted with the warm nose as the low starts maturing. Even up into TN is going to struggle east of Nashville. This thing is going to torch.

So you don't give any hope in the artic air and national weather service saying this is going to happen in these areas?

but that advection is primarily at the 850-700mb level, not the surface, right?

Right but for my area heavy precip rates are gonna bring it down to the surface .anything is possible . Anyone near Birmingham wanting anything frozen needs to hope the the warm nose is being over modeled and that surface temps find a way too cool more than expected in the am . I’ve been watching the freezing line literally bounce off the Jefferson Walker line like a flag blowing in the wind
