Where snow is expecting 5-8 inches
Here's the 84hr frame on the 00z NAM, FWIW...
This has tons of potential IMO .. a very slept on system I like how were not seeing big fantasy runs on it yet ..the 850s looks to really good to me .. maybe upper low potential along with big dog potential
Some potential on mid/,long range gfs. Or at least looks alot better then previous runs.. nice cold to the north to be pulled down. 
Love to to see that block retrograde

Interesting, the Euro looks much better for the early January storm, however temps are too marginal, and VA gets the snow.

euro also looked like it was beginning to setup some mean blocking, just gotta fix the pacific 
Where’s the cold air when you --------- need it 
Since we lack cold air, we need that N/S SW to interact for anything outside of VA into NC, this is honestly close for the NE (what’s new)
This can easily trend better for us here in NC if we play our cards right ... this being in the closer range helps us big time ... I could see another flizzard storm upon us
Can we please trend this into a nice bowling ball 
Arguably this is so close to fat flakes in NC plus ground temps usually respond lower as we get closer

It looks like the blocking over Iceland/Greenland has strengthened and moved south slightly over the past few runs, which has helped shift cold air and the SW further south
