January 11th-12th Southern Slider

This 100%. HRRR sniffed it out.

Beating an extremely dead horse here, but this storm is yet another great example of why you gotta respect overrunning & warm advection

Most models completely whiffed on this over Alabama and were way too dry because they underplayed both, GFS being one of the biggest offenders.

another example of Huntsville NWS not issuing something, even after it happens...half an inch or more is supposed to be a WWA, and many areas have that or more already with more snow coming in, but they release this:
For now, will forgo a winter weather advisory based on the
limited spatial and temporal scale of the hazard but do expect icy
bridges and overpasses will continue to be an issue through at least
noon. For the update, increased snowfall totals to around 0.5-1.0
inch for most locations to the west of Huntsville

This is turning out pretty much as the modeling has shown for the past five days for my area. Up to 35 in central Huntsville. Big pretty flakes falling now, but no accumulations.

Use a free online picture editor or if you're on your phone email a smaller file format to yourself. If you're using an Iphone it should prompt you what size you want to email when before you send it. Then save the image from your email and post that one.

Got under a slightly heavier return and saw snow mixing in with the rain. Temp is 41 too.
Same here. I was driving through Dallas earlier and had some very melted flakes mixing in under the heavier areas. This is probably like the last two where you need 2500 - 3000 feet in elevation in our neck of the woods.

Peaked at about 1.75 inches. Some compacting going on now. 33 and light snow falling. Way over performed here, though some models began to catch on very late in the game. Gulf lows always have a bigger than modeled precip that reaches further north.

Been snowing but mostly flurries and 34 here for the last hour or so. Happy to see other areas of the south and Tennessee get snow. That said its been frustrating having so many systems produce squat here while areas an hour or two away continue to get the good stuff.

I'm extremely happy for our Mid-South posters (I grew up in Memphis)
Did central/north-central AL receive any snow? Any snow on the Univ of AL campus?
Yes to North Alabama but Idk about at University of Alabama
