I love how they issue a special weather statement and in the statement it says " little to no accumulation and no associated impacts expected". So why issue a SWS if there will be no impacts ?

I just moved to Huntsville from Augusta, GA, and I was really looking forward to seeing snow again. I've seen one measurable snowfall since 2008 and one disgustingly harsh ice storm. Why does the snow keep teasing me so badly?

Hey SL! Long time no speak! I see a lot of you TW alums on here! Hope all of you are well! I’m liking what I’m seeing with the models and ground truth already. I’m sort of shocked, usually the models go the other way for these storms. The southern trend is a surprise too but I don’t want it to short you North Alabama guys off from it!

To put things into perspective, Austin is at the same latitude as Jacksonville, FL. Good luck ever getting that much snow in Jacksonville ! I guess Austin's 500' elevation is why they get more snow than Jacksonville.

I’d caution y’all about the HRRR, don’t get burned now, it can definitely be to cold at times, I wouldn’t bet on this being all snow, probably gonna be sleet/rain in this, Learned this the hard way in NC a few days ago, these soundings are all or nothing already, I’d keep expectations to a bare minimum

It’s the SE homie. We have so many hills and elevation differences in Alabama and N GA. 1/2 inch can cause some real traffic issues. Take a trip down I-20 from ATL to BHM and you’ll see.

Well I guess a lot is perspective. In Alabama even a half inch or so can cause enough issues where they need to call attention to it.

Yeah it’s so hard to get a good read on some of these borderline set ups, and so many Mets have been burned so often it does set the stage for the occasional Snowmaggedons and the like. Remember down here we get a lot of crying wolf with the models BUT at some point the wolf actually shows up. Then it isn’t pretty. If I were the TV Mets locally I would give the heads up that while the official take is such and such the possibility for a surprise is very real. Things can be communicated to hedge some bets without having to lose face either if something unexpected happens.

Absolutely. The only real snow I saw in Augusta was in 2010. It was only supposed to be 1/2", and it ended up being 7" when it finally stopped. That was a great day.

When I lived in Tallahassee, FL, the NWS there issued a Winter Storm Warning for what was basically a dusting of snow (granted, there was ZR, too). Then again, when there hasn’t been accumulating snowfall there in 23 years, I suppose it’s a bit different.
