Tropical Hurricane Dorian

Looks like it might be putting on the brakes, I'll not be surprised to see a more NE motion here shortly.
Most short term modeling shows it take an eastward jog from this point and then NE keeping right along or just offshore. Obviously this doesn't spare the coastal sections but could have significant implications with inland wind/rain. Now I'm off to a meeting where I will be be most of the day.... poor timing (who does this?!)

It better hurry. Already closer to shore than even the 12Z NAM had it.
Recon heading in now for a center fix, curious to see what is shows... It probably made it about 20-25 mi further NW than the NAM had it though, either way it's raking the SC coastline right now

For sure. Myrtle beach area really taking it on the chin. Several tornado pics from that area even inland toward Conway.

It looks like Kiawah Island has lost all power. That may encompass all of John’s Island I’m just not sure

Looks like it needs to go more east than northeast, though, if it is going to avoid the NC coast. At least the OBX.

I would landfall is looking very likely at this point. I believe it is well inside even the NAM position right now. We shall see.

3K nam bumped east now just inshore the OBX through NC, winds look more realistic matching better what we are seeing on the ground still as it gets over the Pamlico sound there is a enhanced area over central eastern NC....still given the current motion and large eye size this could be to far east.....still the 925 MB winds on the 12K NAM are 80-100 mph....not sure how well they mix down but they are only 1500-2000 ft up....

I don’t like the changing names of this thread. If it weakens it still has major hurricane surge and other impacts of a major. And if your gonna do it then follow up with it to tropical depression or when it loses its tropical characteristics.

NHC says lost it’s major status and intensity still might be too high but will be generous. Pressure rising.

Anyone have reports out of the SC coastal area? It seems awful quiet here.

I've seen NWS stations reporting winds gusting 50-60mph across a good chunk of SC. Going to be a number of outages there and especially up in NC as the west side of the wind field gets enhanced.

Meanwhile, just cloudy here in Raleigh. Looks like they could have had school today, but better safe than sorry.

Poweroutage.us is reporting over 225,000 power outages across South Carolina. North Carolina currently has over 8,000 power outages reported.

Yeah I think your neighborhood should be fine today with a little light rain and a light breeze with the sun peaking through, as the storm start moving NE motion. Coast may get rough, but your area will see a nice day. Ain't you glad?

We've lost power for the 3rd time this morning. Tree damage is mostly arm/leg sized branches with some scattered larger ones down. Some houses have trim or shutters partially pulled off.

Looks like plenty of 50-70mph gusts have come through my neighborhood.

The tornado warnings keep coming.

The western eyewall of #Hurricane #Dorian is essentially along the South Carolina coastline this morning. Barring a NE shift in the current heading It's looking increasingly likely that #MyrtleBeach will get a direct impact from the eyewall within the next 3 hours. #SCwx

I don’t know if this has already been shared but “Dorian expected to remain a powerful.” Now is not the time to let your guard down. 75BD0DF3-4D7D-492E-8060-893C15F497ED.jpeg

I should probably add, my neighbor across the street had the tonneau cover ripped off his truck and into the back window. Not sure what kind of wind speed that might correlate with.

Damage reported on Bald Eagle Ln in New Hanover County from a tornado.
