Learning Global Warming facts and fiction

The good news is for the Earth and not us is that once in a hothouse state the hydrological cycle would go into hyperdrive and pull the CO2 out of the air by the weathering of rocks with carbonic acid and sequestering it in the form of limestone on the ocean floor and in lakes eventually leveling off at about 250ppm.

I think AGW is for real although I don’t have a lot of confidence in the modeled projections of further global warming from it partially due to unanticipated/unmodeled negative feedback like has been mentioned here.

I'll go with GW, but the A part is still a big ? given even 4000 years of global history ... just 2¢ worth on a Saturday night ...

I think that it’s 75% just natural fluctuations in the climate and 25% human caused. The earth has gotten warmer no doubt but have humans caused it and if we did how much or how little? Things go up and down 100 years from now they could be talking about global cooling for all we know. The biggest thing is we need to start doing better for the earth but the government needs to have little to do with it because it always seems when they get involved with anything it makes it worse. The business sector usually has a sense of a change in taste of the consumers and if the consumers want more “green” energy they will move towards “green” energy to keep the customers.

Well, I had been thinking that the sun could possibly have been the major warming influence instead of the “A”, but I’m now just about ready to give up on that idea. Should I give the sun even more time? I understand lag and have even educatedly guessed lag would have to exist. But I’ve already given it 11 years since the extreme 2008-9 minimum and we’re in a second even more extreme minimum but with no evidence GW has stopped.

There are so many factors ...

Some people speculate that the governments are already trying to mitigate GW by way of "chemtrails" to add aerosols and block some of the sunlight. I'm not sure what to make of that, but it is known that China at least claims to be able to modify their weather.

and our economy ... so watch out ...

There’s some speculation from some folks that AGW related taxation’s goal is to move the world toward more socialism. If true, I don’t want any part of that!! Too much UN involvement would make me nervous because of that. I fully understand the idea of trying to substitute more green energy for fossil fuels, though.

I agree, which is why the topic of AGW is SO political.

There's a lot more going on than we know about.

Build on the moon and Mars!
I think that’s the end game. Can mankind live and prosper long enough to send man elsewhere. Just as the beginning stages of humanity crawled out of the water onto land, we will leave this plantet and leave our mark elsewhere. That is my belief

Hurricane Lorenzo just broke a record for furthest east cat 5. Rather disturbing trend with these monster storms and we’re just getting started.

Anyone know what the SSTs were that it crossed?

Nope but I read that it was near normal in that area and it was the low shear and high moisture feed that was key in its strength.

The Atlantic is more like the western Pacific now with these super typhoon like hurricanes we are getting.

Ever consider that recon rarely visits storms that far out in the Atlantic? I'm sure they could've found stronger storms in the past had there been a reason to fly out there. And no we are not turning into the WPAC. This is an anomalous storm as it had the right environment. Normally the environment out this way is more favorable at this time, but what I think is that its reversed due to the SER sitting over us.

CCKW parked in the right region to suppress the Pacific and enhance the Atlantic
