Wintry Feb. 19-20

For those chasing. Here’s my take. Greensboro NC to Virginia Beach VA if you could draw a line between those two cities and stay north of it then you should be golden. Sorry Raleigh still a major storm for you but too much sleet and ZR will keep limit your snow to 1-3” imo with totals quickly going up northern Wake County into Virginia.

Agreed. Gonna try to at least get to wake forest.

Same for me. Spent way too much time on it, knowing it's an impossible forecast. Then to top it off after spending all of that time and effort, had someone respond to me calling me a MAGA cultist for saying "Gulf of America" in my forecast discussion. I am over today.

Glad to hear I’m not the only one having a hard time with this storm.

Oh god…

Yeah if’s hard for me to break habit and not say Gulf of Mexico. At this point I’ve just reserved myself to say “Gulf” so I don’t piss anyone off lol

It's in google maps now. So if you go by the online maps to forecast it is what it is. Now if you are forecasting from outside the US it is still the GoM in Google maps. We're in the US though

I'm gonna pull my faith in the precip being underdone and still say that 1-3" is still quite possible throughout the CLT area even without the Thursday morning stuff.

I swear I’m not trying to be this guy…. But Fro talk me off the ledge, dude it’s 49 degrees still. Somethings not right . If we had 1” QPF coming I’d care less , but with ar next .3” whewww we cannot waste a millimeter of it

Surface temps are actually pretty marginal imo. All the cold is still out west (really cold), and we never get any good CAD although I think it was decently modeled early on.

I'm still waiting on good CAD this winter. All the threats really haven't had much. Man, this one just really fell apart completely on Sunday, in like every single way for WNC.

Het, just an idea, just Mention GOA or.. GOM for their preference.. Or just,, cuck'em.. (sry off topic)

Current obs.. 41F
DEW POINT is at 33F
humidity 63% overcast..
NE winds at 4mph

18z Euro still looks good for the clt crew. If anything better. Still not much as far as the clipper goes. Looks like temps were a tad colder

It’s going to be really frustrating when people say GOA and we don’t know if they’re talking about the Gulf of Alaska or Gulf of America

I think temperatures are going to be barely cold enough for wet snow in Charlotte, but with precipitation lacking with this weakish system. Daytime snow not helping either. I’d go Dusting to 1 inch for the Queen City

Y'all, here's a Rain Cold rule that will serve you well and drastically cut down on your map-makibg time:

If there are no question marks, go with 125% of the 24 hr 3K NAM snowfall map.

If 1 ? exists, use 80% of the 24 hr 3K NAM totals.

If 2-4 ? exist, slash totals by 50%.

If more than 4 ? exist, less than 25% is recommended. Northern and western sections usually get the full 25%.

We have questions about track/reformation location, temps, mid-level temps, and Gulf Convection.

Yikes.

Charlotte has literally had the worst luck when it comes to snow. It’s been such a constant smack in the face, over and over again. I really thought we had a chance, especially a few days ago. But once again, we are continuing to get robbed. I’m cheering for everyone else, but man, at least Raleigh got 2-3 inches of snow last go-around. Heck, we’ve barely seen a dusting here. We’re definitely not alone; I know a lot of us are in the same boat. But this is just rough. I really hope things turn around, but I’m not taking it to the bank.

I know balloons, etc are commonly used but just saw hurricane hunters are collecting data off the gulf to help with a clear picture. Is this storm so up in the air that it’s stumping a lot of people?

It’s so far off that even Ol Birdman can’t nail it down

Yeah we struggled to get a couple inches maybe. I did see one drift against the fence around 7 inches but otherwise very mid hereView attachment 170537
Cold air can be a curse! Too strong of a push! I was worried at how strong it appeared last night as it crashed through your state, blue norther style! Enjoy the snow you have before the melt next week! ⛄

Is the HRRR trying to dry slot central NC now??

It's the end of the HRRR run which isn't great, plus it's the last frame of that run and precip is actually blossoming from coastal. Not sure how far it would have expanded on the next frame but I go back to my first words, it's the end of the HRRR which isn't great
