Alll we can score is rain, even with a negative NAO! The raging dumpster fire of a Pacific, is going to continue and there’s no way to get cold air transport, into the SE. cold and warm rains, rest of winter! No snow S of 40, the next 3 months! Toast! Toast!Toast!
If only it would snow as frequently as you post this same thing over and over

My mom told me stories of tobacco barn collapsing snow in Durham in the 40s and 50s. And this was from multiple storms a week apart.

I looked at the mjo charts and the gefs and bcgefs have the mjo moving along out of the COD. Unfortunately the euro still has it remaining in the COD. That gives pause until that changes.

LOL @ 240 hour Euro

It was likely this pair of storms in the winter of 1947-48:

20" of snow in Durham in less than 10 days is certainly capable of collapsing a barn. Nash & Wilson counties were the big winner though and picked up about 30" of snow.

This particular winter annihilated the northern coastal plain & is among the top 10 snowiest in the state since somewhat reliable & widespread record keeping of snow began in 1895.

I remember my Grandfather talking about the heat waves in the 30's and how awful they were. Said he had never seen anything like it since. He did say one of those winters was an all timer, 1935-36 I believe, but the other winters in that decade were, in his words, "poop"

He would be very accurate in that statement because 1935-36 is by far & away the snowiest one NC has seen in at least 125 years. The statewide mean was ~26", roughly 4x the long-term average of ~7" ish.

Raleigh saw more snow than Greensboro in the 1930s, it was locally a crappy decade in the triad but the same couldn't be said for areas further NE near the VA border & of course the Triangle.

Webber, your website is amazing, especially the portion dealing with historic snowstorms. I don't know how I've never found it before. I am a big fan or the RAH NWS Past Events page, but your page is so much more complete and goes back a lot further. I am going to be a heavy user. Well done!!!

Yesterday looks bad and today looks good. What will tomorrow look like? The ups and down have taken 30 years off my life.

It will take some back and forth runs before we can cash in I'm sure. ;)

As long as on Christmas day one of these models shows a SE paste bomb....

------ Folks,
The rack was broken and the balls went all over the table; there's an 8 ball wide open near the corner pocket, we're shooting solids and there's only 2 more solids to run with nothing in their way, and both are sitting off the rail with no spin needed on the cue ball ... just chalk up and shoot with a steady aim ... and a steady arm and hand ... January?
