Pattern Fabulous February

Well the NP block either has to go away entirely or become exceptionally strong/propagate poleward into Alaska, the NW territories, and/or the Pacific-arctic.

Webber, thats why i was asking you earlier this week if we had any chance to save some winter before we run out of time. Even if the mjo goes into more niño phases, which weren't present all this winter. I feel that's a reasonable question, that most on here want to know lol. A -pna isnt good, unless we have a -nao to counter the pna.

I don't know. They may have been close because March of 2017 was still 4.4 warmer than the March mean.
At least North GA did get some snow in Jan 2017. I dont recall any substantial snow in 2011-2 although I could be wrong.

ATL's total snow was a trace in both 2011-12 and 2016-7. I don' know about the rest of N GA.

I'm hoping for a March like that of 1932, which followed ATL's 4th warmest winter of 51.9. March was a chilly 48.8 (4.5 colder than the mean) along with 0.5" of S/IP! Also, ATL's warmest winter by far, 1889-90 (54.3), had a 49.6 March. Keep hope alive for March!

6 of the 12 warmest ATL winters had a subsequent March that was colder than Feb of 2019 is projected to be. So, something there to hope for.
Larry,
If one lives in Atlanta, there's some hope, I suppose.
On this end, hope now turns to no severe and absolutely no 'Canes ...
Best!
Phil

I'm hoping for a cool March for you and I, too. Keep hope alive that the dad blasted SE ridge will breakdown!

With you there, my friend. Just mild zehpers and a mild summerspring would be fine. I'm used to doing without snow or sleet, but it's the cold vanishing with the honey bees that's got me spooked. All is fine and well for all those unaffected, or even colder, but for those of us in the firing line of a changing climate, it's not a hoax by crazed scientists, it actually hurts! I was in pain out there in that damned 80 degrees, lol. It hurts my soul too. Sure you can take away my sleet, but when you disappear the cold, I get mad. I might have to dance the nekked sleet dance in the full moon light, and we don't want that...my neighbors don't want that. But using the window fan in early Feb. calls for drastic measures. At least it's cooled off to 76, so the pain has lessened a bit.

I think we picked up 1.5” in January of 17 with some sleet under it. We won’t speak of 11-12. I had just one subfreezing high and nothing more than flurries. It was karma for the year before and I’m afraid this year is karma for last year.

Well is it just me or is the GFS the new version of the contractors in "The Money Pit"?... "When will you finish...?..."Two Weeks"...LOL
It’s actually like the money pit itself. It taunts you with clues that say the treasure is juuuuust within reach. Then, when you’re just about to get it, it shafts you with a flood of despair.

Yeah ... well Fla lottery scratch-off got nothing ... was my Ouija "model" for the rest of "winter" ... paid off just about as good as anything else out there ... :(

Who needs the GFSv3, when oldschool GFS is on your side! Loaded! ?☃️☃️D21F62B6-4527-4BA1-BD97-F79FE748BECE.png530AA864-DC30-477F-BF94-23FA0B3B26EF.png3D46D007-D9AD-4780-A58F-C02E4AD4E7F3.png1E59F376-8D65-400F-8D90-72159E7505D5.png

When looking at ALL ATL winters back to 1878-9 to make folks feel better, it isn't even close to winters like 2016-7. Only one of the 12 warmest, 2015-6 (10th warmest) , was El Nino:

Warmest ATL DJF

1. 1889-90: 54.3
2. 1879-80: 52.4
3. 2016-7: 52.3
4. 1931-2: 51.9
5. 1956-7: 51.6
6. 1949-50: 50.6
7. 1948-9: 50.4
8. 2011-2: 50.3
9. 1881-2: 50.3
10. 2015-6: 49.5 warmest El Nino
11. 1998-9: 49.3
12. 2012-3: 49.2
13. 2018-9 48.9 projected

So, it has been a lot worse!

Honestly, this winter hasnt even seemed that warm. The cold patterns havent materialized thus making it poop in snow production. Im guessing the endless rain spiking night time low temps is what is causing it.

It wasn’t in certain places before February. I think the mean here was around 3 degrees above normal for December. For January it was right at normal overall but It was the lows though that were a tad above normal and that won’t get you winter weather very often in the southeast.
