Oh, I agree with you! I'm saying that most of the time, clippers go too far north. It just so happens the NAM is showing it going to far north, which is why I mentioned that it has the "right" idea. It is not alone in sending the clipper through the Ohio Valley, though. See the GEFS.

Need some kind of surface low popping at the base of the trough along the coast to juice it up, typically if we get something like that the models are late to the party....

Yep! This is nice and chilly for Chapel Hill but disappointed not to be experiencing the real cold.
It’s not the cold, it’s the wind! ??
And we have made it down to 32.0 now. Probably won't be back until around this time Christmas day

Front is sort of muted here. Only sitting at 42. Numerous locations in Virginia below zero though. Grayson Highlands is 9 below at 5k so Mount Rogers and Whitetop are probably sitting at 12 or 13 below.

Absolutely! Always want to be in on historic weather for our area, not just fringed. One of these states is not like the others.

23 with a wind chill of 11 and winds out of the west at 20 mph. -5 DP also. It’s quite cold out there and almost takes your breath when you walk outside. I’ve got a salmon stew on the stove with the fire going and ready to see how long it goes once the sun starts to set around 4:15 this afternoon

That is bitter cold for so far South.
It’s like a blue norther that made it all the way to the eastern seaboard. Normally for us in the upstate we only see these mid day temps in the 20’s when a wedge is building in ahead of a gulf low pressure system. This is a strange day for sure. No snow for me but property damage is right around a grand and counting. Big limb fell on my buddies house down the road and put a hole in his attic.
