Wintry December 23-26 2022 Winter Weather and Cold

5.7 was the low and still have water. I feel like I’ve been walking in a desert with the heat running so much. I can’t drink enough to not feel parched.
A big pot of water on the stove works wonders. Makes you feel warmer and keeps you from freeze-drying.

The only downside is when it's this cold, even double-paned windows fog up. I actually have ice cycles on the metal part at the bottom of my sliding glass door lol.

So no power still up here in Cutler, ME! Temps aren't as cold as yall are, around 17 but they've been dropping since I got up at 7am. Light snow falling. No generator, wood stove, or pellet stove and the house downstairs is 52 and upstairs is 56. The association doesnt allow wood stoves or pellet stoves. Tossed perishable food in the back porch. Fingers crossed everyone's power comes back on soon and that the workers are safe! 20221224_083542.jpg

6 degrees this morning in Lewisville. My parents lost power a little while ago, called and Duke energy said they are performing rolling blackouts that will last 15-30 minutes or longer.
They’re still without power an hour later. It’s now 9 degrees outside.

My best guess would be that but I'm a bit too far north for Allatoona and west of Lanier with the winds not due E. Could also be some river effect or something. I'm interested if anyone around here also saw this.
A WAG is a streamer from a combination of river effects from the Tennesse river in Alabama combined with some moisture sublimated from the snowpack to the NW. In any case, that is a nice surprise!

Nothing over here on the other side of Lake Lanier. Interesting indeed.

8 degree low in chapel hill this morning. ’feels like’ -4. had to wake up several times to keep the wood stove going as i don’t have central heat. my weather proofing upgrades did well this year in this drafty 120 yr old house. i feel for those without resources and adequate abilities to stay warm. Brutal cold.

After a short venture outside, it occurred to me how unusual it is for it to still be this windy now more than 24 hours following the arctic frontal passage. The 2nd day is usually cold and still this time of day. Brrr.

I'm tempted to run over to the cold spot by the train tracks to see if it is doing its usual cold spot stuff
@WeatherNC The cold spot is cold spotting this morning. Made a run over to the trash site and as I was in the fields approaching the train tracks the temp went down to 15 and as I crossed the tracks and into the trees one minute later it bumped to 18.

So it also turns out through some absolutely unknown means we got a light dusting of snow? It's on the cars, in the road, rooves, grass, everywhere. Nice surprise after I looked out the window. View attachment 128472
Wow! Nope, no snow here. We bottomed out at 3.6 though.

I am in Jasper … I posted this earlier. Still have snow but has blown around now …

Had to drive from Jasper, GA to Dahlonega and back this evening. Left around 10:30 and returned about 20 minutes ago. On return trip west of Dawsonville started noticing fine snow …at first thought just dust because there are several marble quarries on the route. It picked up. Temp on car ranged from 4 to 2.

Here is a pic … totally surprised. First time in my life to see snow at that temp. And not really forecasted.

I agree... I remember the 1983 X mas Freeze that started over night the 23/24 and did not get above freezing until the 27th (KATL) was Very Windy Saturday (24) and it died down Sunday AM (25th).. After that was typical "Clear/Cold/Calm" for this area

It's going to be painful watching this system dry up and go poof on its way SE
