Here's a daily gif of that event. This is a very rare case of getting snow with a ridge over SE Canada. The only reason that worked was because of a deeply cold air mass over Central Canada. Another similarity between this upcoming look and the Dec 1973 storm. By the time it reached the NE, there was ice.

NWS appears to be going with the higher snow totals the gfs has been showing today for the Kentucky Tennessee boarder. The windchills are no joke though.

No, it requires an air compressor or pressure washer and spray nozzles for correct atomization . Also, there must be a nucleation nozzle to create the ice crystals. It's not as easy as just spraying water in the air.

I made this contraption a few years ago and only had a chance to run it a couple hours. It works but temps need to be well below 30. Water hose screws into one end, air hose into the other. Blue prints are on-line and everything can be bought at HD. Gonna give it a go with my boys on Friday.

Unfortunately to have an official white Christmas you need 1 inch at 7am on Christmas morning. But hey who’s counting if I see white that’s a white Christmas to me

It depends on how much the winds die down. If it calms for even just a couple hours before daybreak, things could plunge in a hurry. Most of these are models are keeping a light breeze going which cuts back on radiational cooling

Another thing that seems evident is that the short range modeling is really smashing the front through more aggressively than almost any global.
