Pattern December 2023

54 to 40 in a couple of hours but still don't think we'll get there. LLJ is starting to howl so not sure how moisture keeps rolling in on this side of the apps.
 
What would you say is the best mountain town to move too if you wanna see a good bit of snow every year but not have to worry about treacherous roads to get to stores town etc?

Sorta depends on how much snow you want and how far north you want to go.

Boone averages 25.6 inches of snow and Banner Elk is at 31.4. Wise Virginia averages 47 and some of the mountain towns in West Virginia average well over 100 inches a Winter.
 
We’re down to 42 here. Temps just collapsed today. We went from 57 with a steady drop all afternoon and evening. Wind is really going crazy too. Went outside to get the trashcan and between the steady rain and wind and you can feel the temps falling it was actually a difficult walk
 
Over 2 inches here storm total so far. My rye grass looks like someone dumped green paint all over yard.

Wind startng to get going mby. Already had a light flicker. May get 40+ gust, wet ground= bad combo

From spending 4 years in college up there, I would have to say Boone. It averages 26 inches a year and the season can definitely start early or end late. Plenty of houses and apartments close to town and the DOT does a really good job with the roads. My freshman year of college was that awesome 1995-96 winter. First accumulating snow was in mid November that year and there was at least an inch of snow on the ground from the day before I went home for Christmas until early March. That storm of 1/6-1/8/96 was great and I got to see whiteout conditions for the first time with it.
 
I gotta say looking at the 500mb maps for the next couple weeks in the GEFS and the EPS, I’m really surprised that 2m temps are not modeled a good bit higher especially from late this week and on. I have a feeling that is probably gonna change and modeled temps will start trending warmer. As Fro mentioned earlier, there’s some serious mild Pacific air about to flood all of North America.
 
Radar animation is pretty awesome rn. Showers and rain shield moving NNE over central and eastern sections, while the front is moving in from the west, generating new precipitation. Radar shows this well.

Yes and the shield on the back of the front has juiced up a good bit as well. I just had temperatures drop from 64 to 48 in about 45 minutes and have had some of the heaviest rain of the day during it. Makes you wonder why we can’t ever go from 44 to 28 during a frontal passage and there still be plenty of moisture around.

Down to 50. Wind is wiping. Dropped 10 degrees in 15 minutes.

I was away all weekend, but I kept kinda close tabs on the radar, there seemed to be a parade of storms training over the area last night. Tempest average for the area was 2.24”. I keep a real gauge for actual verification.

I'm in Atlanta this week and I saw on the news there was some storm damage in Cobb county on some houses. Looked like straight line winds.
