Wintry Dec 8-10th Winter Storm

Phasing between the northern and southern stream wave at least the way it's done on the GFS would squash our storm even more, TPVs in the northern branch of the jet often don't play nice with southern stream waves.

So it wouldn't result in the usual capture and tug NE? By TPV you mean tropopause polar vortex? I hope you don't mind the questions

Probably should have specified further that it's a lobe of the tropospheric polar vortex, the usual capture & tug is harder to come by when the northern stream wave is out ahead of the southern stream disturbance and even if it's not out ahead of our southern stream wave phasing between the two isn't always a seamless transition, it can in many cases squelch the subtropical disturbance into oblivion resulting in a weaker s/w and storm if the northern branch wave had otherwise left it alone.
