I still don't feel very comfortable with the setup. Like I said this morning we are walking a thin line between a decent event and getting nothing at all

I'm skeptical about large totals in Raleigh because of the likely changeover to rain in the afternoon depicted on most models.

Does anyone see any potential for freezing rain from triad area? Going to drive to maggie valley but dont want to encounter fzrn on the way.

Triad will probably get alot of snow and some sleet but so far based off current guidance, no zr until you get to maybe clt

Feb 87 is an event that has similar temp setup, big 50/50 low, marginal temps except with the southern low. This was the infamous big sleet storm for RDU.

On a more serious note, several gef members produce over 2 feet of snow east of the mountains. Chicken houses would collapse and some homes would be at risk for roof failure. I could see a need for PDS Winter Storm Watch for Surry, Yadkin, Wilkes and Iredel counties along with mountain counties.
