Coronavirus (Stay on Topic)

First Saturday with under 1,000 deaths nationally since March. Otherwise, things are pretty similar. The 7-day average for fatalities continues to drop slowly.

On a local level, in NC we had a record number of cases today and a disturbingly high (~10%) positive test rate. Hospitalizations are down from the record highs set earlier this week, but it’s the weekend so that’s pretty typical. I’m not too hopeful of us getting to Phase 3 anytime soon...

The IHME modeling suggests NC is about at its peak now, but I have very little faith in that model at this point.

Taking off in SC now. Another few days like this will bring the lockdown back to this state.

Mississippi, California and SC seeing surges in cases after reopening. Still not out of the woods yet.

We’re going to know just how fake Covid is or isn’t here in the next 2 weeks. If these giant protests don’t make numbers skyrocket then I’m not sure we even need a vaccine. Should be interesting to watch it all play out. I’m in the middle. I’m still not sure what to believe honestly.

At least the protests, despite being mass gatherings, are mostly outside.

The coronavirus has become much less lethal and the virus is losing its "potency," a top Italian doctor has said, Reuters reported.

Dr. Alberto Zangrillo, the head of the San Raffaele Hospital in Milan — one of the areas in Italy hardest hit by COVID-19 — explained the evolution of the virus is extremely positive.
"In reality, the virus clinically no longer exists in Italy," Zangrillo told RAI television, Reuters reported.
"The swabs that were performed over the last 10 days showed a viral load in quantitative terms that was absolutely infinitesimal compared to the ones carried out a month or two months ago," he explained.
Although daily COVID-19 cases continue to rise, daily deaths are steadily decreasing after reaching a peak in mid-April. The increase in positive cases reflects mass testing around the world, not a virus that is rapidly spreading. Italy, specifically, now averages fewer than 100 COVID-19 deaths per day after becoming the global epicenter just two months ago.

The decrease in potency means nations should reopen, Zangrillo said.
In fact, the doctor said there should be accountability for leaders who enacted such harsh lockdowns when the virus never lived up to the scientific predictions.
"We've got to get back to being a normal country," he said, Reuters reported. "Someone has to take responsibility for terrorizing the country."
Dr. Matteo Bassetti, the head of the infectious diseases clinic at a hospital in Genoa, corroborated Zangrillo's analysis.
"The strength the virus had two months ago is not the same strength it has today," he told the ANSA news agency, Reuters reported. "It is clear that today the COVID-19 disease is different."

Here we go with the far end sources again...

Update : dad is off quarantine since he has shown no symptoms for 10 days now, and has no cough/fever, and my mom is just a few days away from doing the same as she has shown no symptoms, my dad described his experience as being pretty bad day 1 into 2, than said after it was basically nothing, my mom also said day 1-2 the high fever scared her as she spiked into the 104 range, and said it was definitely worse than influenza those first 2 days, but after that has been good

Awesome news! How about you, since you've been exposed to them does it seem like you might have caught it as well or probably not? Glad to hear they improved significantly after the first 1-2 days.
