When the first 3 days of the virus thread has more pages than the first 3 days of the January thread had..
Cold comfort - the current 2.3% mortality rate is similar to that of the Spanish Flu, and ~30 million people worldwide were dead by the time that pandemic was done.
Today’s population is almost quadruple what it was 100 years ago.. almost as many people living in China today as there were on the planet 100 years ago..(1.9 billion on the planet in 1918 compared to 1.4 billion in China today)

Puts our population into perspective. Boom is an understatement.

2700 deaths doesn't seem like a good reason to shut down a country of 1.4 billion.

Looks like "Jon" mentioned he had a doctorate in the medical field. Not sure what exactly. Also, Webb "almost has a masters" in atmospheric science?

That makes Eric a scientist. I don’t know what Jon does. Webb is quite adept at understanding the terminology, but I’m not sure he’s up to speed on virology and epidemiology. He could be, but what do I know?

everyone panic!!!

And also people like myself that are immuno-compromised. I lost my spleen after a violent car accident that nearly took me off this earth and I also have Stage 1 CLL. Don’t fcking breath on me. Also, get your little semen demons immunized. It’s the proper thing to do. Unless you like investing in little caskets.

I wouldn’t put too much trust in those numbers just yet. Such as the critically ill stat of only 50% survival rate. While 50% in Wuhan, it is 100% so far in Singapore.
I hope that remains the case, but there are less than 100 confirmed cases in Singapore so far - much too small a sample size to be dispositive of anything one way or the other.

N95 masks and proper use of hand washing/antibacterial soaps/hand sterilizing gel, along with quarantining in home those that have the virus should help stop the spread. But good luck getting a bunch of people who don’t give a flying --- about other people to follow that regimen.

If this is a repeat of the Spanish flu I’d eat the biggest crow you can find.

I think we have a better hold on how to stop the spread of viruses in the modern world (at least in the more developed countries) than we did in the early 1900’s.

I don’t think you will see this reach the proportions that the Spanish Flu did. There were so many extenuating circumstances with that. Of course today air travel is a thing so there’s that, but once again I go back to common sense prevention techniques. The problem is two words. COMMON and SENSE. It seems that a large segment of the population have none. It’s either that or a willful disregard for their fellow man. I’m not sure whether it’s ignorance or apathy. TBH, I don’t know and I don’t care. LOL

Good luck finding any N95 masks right now - I've been shopping for them on Amazon for the past hour and most suppliers are sold out already. The few that still have some for sale are charging outrageous prices; a 30 pack is going for over 200 bucks ?
