Today’s population is almost quadruple what it was 100 years ago.. almost as many people living in China today as there were on the planet 100 years ago..(1.9 billion on the planet in 1918 compared to 1.4 billion in China today)Cold comfort - the current 2.3% mortality rate is similar to that of the Spanish Flu, and ~30 million people worldwide were dead by the time that pandemic was done.

2700 deaths doesn't seem like a good reason to shut down a country of 1.4 billion. When the first 3 days of the virus thread has more pages than the first 3 days of the January thread had..

Puts our population into perspective. Boom is an understatement.
Looks like "Jon" mentioned he had a doctorate in the medical field. Not sure what exactly. Also, Webb "almost has a masters" in atmospheric science?
I have Dr. in front of my name and it’s not a PhD, not sure if that counts.

I hope that remains the case, but there are less than 100 confirmed cases in Singapore so far - much too small a sample size to be dispositive of anything one way or the other.I wouldn’t put too much trust in those numbers just yet. Such as the critically ill stat of only 50% survival rate. While 50% in Wuhan, it is 100% so far in Singapore.

What a minute. You’re a Pharm D, right?
If this is a repeat of the Spanish flu I’d eat the biggest crow you can find.

Pence seems like the grown up in the roomI don't feel comforted!
Good luck finding any N95 masks right now - I've been shopping for them on Amazon for the past hour and most suppliers are sold out already. The few that still have some for sale are charging outrageous prices; a 30 pack is going for over 200 bucks ?N95 masks and proper use of hand washing/antibacterial soaps/hand sterilizing gel, along with quarantining in home those that have the virus should help stop the spread. But good luck getting a bunch of people who don’t give a flying --- about other people to follow that regimen.
I can't figure out why China overreacted, it's just like the flu. Everyone just needs to wash their hands and we should be good by spring
