Trump never called the virus a hoax. Also Joe Biden said he was being racist and xenophobic for restricting travel, as did most Liberals/Democrats.
There is blame for the Obama administration also as they did not replenish the stocks of the N95 respirators drawn down during the H1N1 crisis in 2009 for 7 years and Trump deserves blame for not replenishing them in his 3 years. It is easy to point figures but it does nothing to solve the problem

Wrong. Get your facts straight.
Unfortunately there are no facts only speculation at this point. Larry Kudlow said 6 trillion, not me. He also said 4 trillion to the banks. I'm sure they have to pay it back eventually but with little or no interest. I think most of us could make a buck if we were given millions in loans with little interest and could pay it back whenever we turned a profit

It's always Obama's fault.

It's always Obama's fault.
It's always somebody's fault (and I never was an Obama fan, but that's a different chapter) ... Damnit - Folks, quit spending energy on blame ... it would be far better to spend energy on solving a problem ... starting at home, then next door, then down the steet, then at City Hall, then at the State Capitol, then in Washington ... but aimless bitching on a weather board isn't going to solve a damn thing ... o_O

Yeah liberals were complete buffoons for insinuating the travel restrictions were racist (know of many that said this and it made me cringe), and while I initially thought Trump's declaration of this as the "Chinese virus" was racist in hindsight, I was wrong and I'm actually totally okay with this connotation because in the end, it was the communist party in China who had a chance to act on this from the outset, instead they decided to cover it up for 2 months, censor, detain, or even kill anyone who spoke out about it, lie to the WHO about human-human transmission, and now are trying to shift blame onto the US for this crisis. No, they absolutely 100% deserve every bit of mud and vitriol that's going to be slung their way over the coming months & years.

I've just demonstrated that the left downplayed the problem from the start - let's look at the New York Times on Feb. 18th (not exactly "early on", eh?):

Collectively, it's pretty obvious one side wasn't taking (and still isn't taking) this as serious as the other. If you want more proof of this just look at the collection of statements from those with left or right leanings in this very forum or thread for that matter, the trend is blatantly obvious despite your cherry-picked left-leaning articles. As in any situation there will be outliers, but the collective distribution of democrats are and have been taking this threat more seriously

"
A new NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll has revealed sharp partisan divides between Americans over the coronavirus pandemic.

The poll found 68 percent of Democrats are worried that someone in their family could catch the virus, while just 40 percent of Republicans and 45 percent of independents share that concern."

Anyone that has elementary level reading comprehension and is capable of putting 2 and 2 together in the context of the other bullcrap that's crawled out of his mouth regarding the virus knew he was suggesting the whole thing was a big hoax propped up by the liberal media. But yes, his response to the virus was in fact a hoax because there basically was none early on and the sheer incompetence and ineptitude of the administration along with a large portion of congress has been on full display for weeks now and has been nothing short of a pure clown show. Is it really that hard to get a stimulus package passed?

I despise Trumps politics, but I have to agree with snowlover91 on this. He called the Democrats bad mouthing his response a hoax, not the virus itself. This is coming from me, a Democrat.

I helped an elderly lady friend apply for unemployment today at my home. She always had a cough but after she left I took a shower, mopped the floors, used wipes on handles and hard to reach places and sprayed disinfectant on all furniture. These people have no library to go to and the phone lines are jammed. She is a veteran so it’s the least I could do.

Amen buddy!

Our economy is so structurally sound it needs $6 Trillion to bail it out. At least. $6 Trillion. Has anyone stopped to consider what an absolutely absurd number that is. We've become numb to numbers because they're thrown around like candy these days. Can't wait till someone goes all in with the Quad.

I hope that one thing all of us take away if we come out this intact is that within our lifetimes, we will likely see hyperinflation. You need to think about that and prepare for it.

Maybe now we will have to see if after all these dead bodies from the virus. If we have more dead bodies from Violence and robberies and hunger. Hopefully the desperate ones don’t lead to desperate measures. IF America does descend into a depression. I’d bet more will die from it than this virus but that’s right America is invincible. Let’s sacrifice everyone’s future for the few.

How many Americans have died from the virus already? How many from desperate measures of the masses?

The virus has a pretty solid head start

To each his own, we'll agree to disagree and move on.

Webb, I think @snowlover91 is right on this. From what I understand, Trump was saying that the portrayal of him not doing well in getting ahead on the fight against the virus was the hoax. He wasn’t saying the virus, itself, was a hoax from what I’ve read.

Now that doesn’t mean I’m defending Trump for how he was doing early on. Although I (just like Dr Fauci and you I think) thought his travel ban from China was an excellent move (can you imagine how bad it would be now had he not done that?), I still think his downplaying about the threat to the US early on (I think he was doing that to keep the stock market stable) put us much further behind than we’d otherwise be.

Edit: So, Trump was calling the Dems portrayal of how he was doing a hoax but in reality, the Dems seem to be right imo (outside of the China travel ban) that Trump was downplaying it meaning the criticism was not a hoax after all (at least imo).

Just some perspective for those keeping track at home:
"The height of a stack of 1,000,000,000,000 (one trillion) one dollar bills measures 67,866 miles. This would reach more than one fourth the way from the earth to the moon."

While so many are worried about this virus and the deaths it is causing. The tidal wave of economic collapse is on the horizon and those that think this virus is bad have no clue how bad it will get when there is no jobs and no money to take care of families. I pray I am so wrong.

True but if we go into a depression the numbers of dead from the virus will be pale in comparison to what will unfold. Hope you are right Shaggy. Honestly I do.

The U.S. is past this opportunity to control (COVID-19) without shutdown,” Gates said during a TED Connects program broadcast online. “We did not act fast enough to have an ability to avoid the shutdown.”

I think Bill Gates really sums up what a lot of us here are expressing.

Honestly not sure why his ted talk from 2015 warning about a potential new pandemic keeps popping up as a suggested video in my youtube feed, we must be having a pandemic or something...

There's a huge reason Bill Gates is the richest man in the world, his foresight of the overall socio-economic state and progression of the world, (not only its desires technologically) is truly unparalleled.

???

If someone is still employed with zero hours for months should they hit laid off or reduction in hours? I hit laid off because there is 0% chance of any hours for her. The boss preferred high schoolers over a veteran for the to go orders despite her being full time waiting tables.

I haven't taken polls seriously since 11/8/16; in any event "worry" is a wholly subjective emotional response based on an individual's unique circumstances (age, location, income, etc), so what's the point of even bringing it up? But I'm glad you finally identified the true villain in this crisis: the PRC. Even now, they continue to fabricate data.

You keep harping on this economic collapse. 1. If we go back the virus will run through this country like a track meet and there won’t be anybody to work. 2. The economy is going to suffer whether we go back or lockdown. The sooner we shut this thing down for 2-3 weeks the quicker it will end.

What?

People are given two options on the computer test. Lay off or reduction in hours. She’s still employed but zero hours for months. Is lay off correct option? I googled definition of lay off and it says temporary so I think it applies to her?

I am asking for those that would like. To tell me how long you think this will go on and how you see the economy after it’s over. Such as unemployment rates. We economy boom right outta gate? I am not going to debate I am just wondering what everyone’s thoughts are.

So you believe this is over in 2-3 weeks then we can go back to work? What happens if it’s not over? No one to work? Is everyone going to be dead or sick?

I need to call her back she does not need to find 3 work references every week because of the corona. The screening was fairly confusing when we did it and crashed many times. It did not include the latest Corona requirements, it only mentioned once if it was corona related which I hit yes to.

Check Bill Gates on his FB page he had his reddit q&a for everything you just asked. He’s been on top of it well before it was mainstream.

North Carolina now has 503 confirmed cases. That number is not flattening.

There are probably thousands if not 10's of thousands of people in NC with it everywhere from just got it today and have no idea they have it to had it for weeks...the number of cases will continue to climb by larger margins everyday, all these cases are preloaded.....it takes 4-12 days from infection to symptoms then another 20-25 days to recover or die....that's a month....so everyone that has been infected over the last several weeks are just now getting sick, all the people currently being infected wont pop up for another week or so...there will be thousands of active NC cases by the end of this week probably.

I know this will unfortunately change but its interesting that NC is about to cross over 500 cases with 0 deaths, the next state with 0 deaths is Al with 242 cases.

UAB adding more to the hospital and showing more critical. Sadly I think AL's run will end soon.
