The overwhelming majority of conservatives both in power and the public did not take this as seriously as the left from the very beginning and many are still completely oblivious and will cost thousands upon thousands of lives for their lack of more swift action. I'm wholly confident the economy will come back within a few years (or less). Would you rather have kids and families risk going into poverty or have many of their family members outright die? These are the kinds of decision(s) and options many will have to make and weigh, sooner rather than later.
He has literally been saying for days his opinion is people should just go about business as usual and risk death to help the economy

NC is up to 495 cases now. We should easily pass the 500 mark before midnight.

Lack of swift action? The WHO didn't confirm H2H transmission in Wuhan until Jan. 23rd (thanks to Beijing's coverup), and the US government ordered an air evacuation of American citizens from Wuhan the very next day. After more cases began to appear elsewhere in China outside of Wuhan, the government authorized the departure of State Department dependents from all of China. On Jan. 30th, Trump ordered travel restrictions for China (including a mandatory quarantine of US citizens with recent travel to Wuhan), and the on Jan. 31st the administration declared a nationwide Public Health Emergency.

So now they are saying six trillion!

Where are you getting that from? The most recent high-end estimate I've seen is two trillion (which still ain't peanuts, mind you).

Confirmed cases and deaths in Georgia.
COVID-19 Confirmed CasesNo. Cases (%)
Total1097 (100%)
Hospitalized361(32.91%)
Deaths38 (3.46%)

Georgia now including a hospitalized statistic

Sorry I don't post links, I'm not the most tech savvy. It was on the news and if you Google it you will find it. Larry Kudlow said it

4T is Fed liquidity. It's on Foxnews

2 trillion in new money. 4 trillion in liquidity from the fed reserve

Oh yeah. There was an instructor in Coronado that used to play scarlet begonias through the truck speakers on runs. I was in the cant run goon squad so I was the one getting smoked by it....I HATED IT! But I learned to love it!

I’m a huge Dead fan. Nice to know you are as well.

Wow! You mean to tell me that the WHO couldn't figure out that communist China was lying the whole time? What a revelation, anyone with half a brain knew they weren't telling the whole story given the did everything they could to cover it up for 2 months and HTH was likely rampant by the time it was "officially" confirmed. Any reasonable, level-headed human being could have seen that one coming from over a mile away.

Trump called this a liberal media hoax a few weeks ago that was completely made up to hurt his re-election chances, later said we had it under control, later said it would go just like magic, pence said we had enough tests when there were actually next to none and the CDC's first test kits failed horribly (oops), and the admin scoffed at the idea of shutting the entire country down when it was clearly needed (& still is), failed to ramp up production of medical supplies ahead of the oncoming virus, then it was subsequently deemed just "another flu virus" and greatly overhyped by most conservative pundits and (even by many on this very forum), but no you're absolutely right, we were really prepared from the very beginning.

Smh, my head.

Looking over the daily coronavirus data in Tennessee, there is at least some good news. The number of new cases being reported has slowed a bit in recent days...

New cases:
March 21st - 143 (371 total)
March 22nd - 134 (505 total)
March 23rd - 110 (615 total)
March 24th - 52 (667 total)

Hopefully a trend that holds. Fingers crossed. ?

Hmmm. Fair enough.

I think you and I agree on more than you think, but I won't press further. Thanks for clarifying.

I don't think you and I disagree at all. I'm more or less talking for my benefit. I don't think anyone really can wrap their mind around a global depression. Heck I'm trying to wrap my mind around that horror.

Not every state is going to face a physician shortage, and new HHS waivers issued a couple of weeks ago now allow medical professionals to practice across state lines.

No one is saying we should be unconcerned, but nor should we melt down into wild histrionics - there is a middle ground between those extremes.

I agree with both points.

Can you remind me what you're arguing with me about? I have a feeling we're both in the weeds.

Of course it’s all the conservatives fault. Well holding you to the economy will come back and no kids or families will go hungry or homeless. Also no increase in poverty either.

The economy was gonna collapse whether we chipped away at it with slowdowns, lockdowns or it would have collapsed under the weight of dead bodies. It was gonna collapse either way.

Bold is incorrect. Look up fact checkers, he called the democrats criticism of his response a hoax, not the virus itself.

What's True
During a Feb. 28, 2020, campaign rally in South Carolina, President Donald Trump likened the Democrats' criticism of his administration's response to the new coronavirus outbreak to their efforts to impeach him, saying "this is their new hoax." During the speech he also seemed to downplay the severity of the outbreak, comparing it to the common flu.
What's False
Despite creating some confusion with his remarks, Trump did not call the coronavirus itself a hoax.

In the wake of the criticism, Trump said at a press conference on Feb. 29 that he used the term “hoax” to refer not to coronavirus itself but to Democrats’ criticism of how his administration had responded to it.

Asked if he regretted using that particular word, he replied “No. No. No. Hoax referring to the action that they take to try and pin this on somebody because we’ve done such a good job. The hoax is on them not… I’m not talking about what’s happening here. I’m talking what they’re doing. That’s the hoax. That’s just a continuation of the hoax, whether it’s the impeachment hoax or the Russia, Russia, Russia hoax. This is what I’m talking about. Certainly not referring to this. How could anybody refer to this? This is very serious stuff…”

I can show you another forum where the first 100 pages were liberals laughing and mocking anyone trying to hint this was serious.

Anyone that has elementary level reading comprehension and is capable of putting 2 and 2 together in the context of the other bullcrap that's crawled out of his mouth regarding the virus knew he was suggesting the whole thing was a big hoax propped up by the liberal media. But yes, his response to the virus was in fact a hoax because there basically was none early on and the sheer incompetence and ineptitude of the administration along with a large portion of congress has been on full display for weeks now and has been nothing short of a pure clown show. Is it really that hard to get a stimulus package passed?

Who knows why WHO waited until Jan. 23rd to publish their suspicions about H2H; you'll have to ask them:

"The initial source of 2019-nCoV still remains unknown. However, it is clear the growing outbreak is no longer due to ongoing exposures at the Huanan seafood market in Wuhan; as in the last one week, less than 15% of new cases reported having visited Huanan market. There is now more evidence that 2019-nCoV spreads from human-to-human and also across generations of cases"

Trump called this a liberal media hoax a few weeks ago that was completely made up to hurt his re-election chances

He was calling the dishonest media coverage of the administration response a hoax, not the outbreak itself. After Trump ordered the China travel restrictions on Jan. 30th, the media criticized him for overreacting - an example is this Feb. 1st Washington Post article (although I have to admit that the "Get a grippe" headline was a pretty decent pun).

Certainly some of my liberal friends, actually most of my friends and colleagues to be quite honest, along with family, etc. didn't take this anywhere near as seriously as they should have or I did from the outset, and I'll admit we've evolved slightly faster and with more vigor than even I anticipated in the US.

Could you imagine if everyone would have spent more time & resources devoted towards preparing for a potential pandemic instead of worrying about how much the media was overhyping this what we would have been able to accomplish? Willing to bet we'd be right there with South Korea & Japan and this would basically be a non-issue/nothingburger in this country for the foreseeable future. It's not like we didn't have ample time or anything, we were one of the last major areas to be affected by the virus even if you consider how many early cases went undetected, etc. Asia & Europe oth had to react much more quickly due to their proximity to China.

I know this will unfortunately change but its interesting that NC is about to cross over 500 cases with 0 deaths, the next state with 0 deaths is Al with 242 cases.
It's a really great stat. I haven't even speculated on why it's down here. I've been afraid to even mention for fear of jinxing us. (which is completely irrational I know)

Let's keep this going, the proportion of hospitalizations and ICUs for younger people in Mecklenburg county are a bit discomforting although I know it almost entirely has everything to do w/ a lack of testing. You basically have to be already symptomatic to get tested around here, and for many at that point it's almost too little too late because by the time your test results come back (few-several days), your condition may have deteriorated to a point where you already should have been in ICU.

The media overhyping didn't come till later; in the early stages it was they who accused Trump of overhyping. For example, on Feb. 3rd the WaPo published an op-ed titled "Why we should be wary of an aggressive government response to coronavirus", saying that the administration's "decision Friday to deny entry to non-nationals who have recently traveled to China and quarantine Americans who are returning from that country marks a significant, and potentially counterproductive, escalation in the U.S. response to the coronavirus crisis."

I could go on and on with more examples, but what's the point? You've internalized the left's narrative on the chain of events.

This is fact and various liberal websites took the time to do a fact check providing documentation of this.

Maybe that's because the left took this problem more seriously earlier on and aren't promulgating anti-science drivel, conspiracy theory driven nonsense and not completely losing their minds by blatantly downplaying the severity of the problem at every twist and turn and insinuating human sacrifices as the only way to save the economy (lol).

Maybe now we will have to see if after all these dead bodies from the virus. If we have more dead bodies from Violence and robberies and hunger. Hopefully the desperate ones don’t lead to desperate measures. IF America does descend into a depression. I’d bet more will die from it than this virus but that’s right America is invincible. Let’s sacrifice everyone’s future for the few.

To each his own, we'll agree to disagree and move on.
