The democrats don’t want to mail everyone checks . They want to put all the money into unemployment so that people receive weekly checks . Instead one in April and one on May . The people that get let go from their jobs would actually benefit more going that route as they would have steady income . I’m a republican, this shouldn’t be political at all . It should be what makes the most sense. without reading what their plan actually says , on the surface the democratic plan makes more sense vs mailing everyone a check

Not everyone qualifies for unemployment though. They should find a way to do both. My guess is they will.

Can't believe all these parents not acting like, well, parents. What do they think they are teaching their children? Oh yeah, schools closed so y'all should all go hang together at the park? Don't worry if grandma and grandpa die...
Was at the park yesterday, it was absolutely packed. Nobody cares and just living life normally.

Yes I’m a contract with a company that staffs venue workers for concerts and sports at university of South Carolina. I do not qualify for unemployment and when baseball season ended for the NCAA so did my job. It was just a second part time job for some extra money to help with 2 kids in college. But some of the workers depend on the job for food on table.

This could get ugly...
I do understand the need for help for the people who lost their job because of this. I went to the Olive Garden curbside pickup and found out 75 percent of the servers have been laid-off because of this. Thing about taking the Democrat side of this. The people that is still working and possibly putting themselves in harms way isn’t getting nothing extra out of it.
They will have to find a happy medium for this situation..

NY and NJ combined have 50% of total cases nationwide. NY state alone accounts for 44.92%. :(

Most NY cases are NYC, but I haven't found exact numbers yet.

Bingo - self-employed workers (like Uber and Lyft drivers, who have been seriously impacted) aren't eligible for unemployment benefits.

Why would someone want to work for $$ if they can just receive $$ for free if job offers choice of learning drive through or being fired? Why work at Walmart temporary if they will pay you for free if you don’t?

Ok so why should I pay someone $ if they don’t want to work? The money should go to people that actually want to work. People take advantage of the help and some live off the help. Unemployment checks should be temporary. You shouldn’t profit for laziness.

That is what my co-worker and I said last week. We will be out and about despite any restrictions. Public water will have to remain on.

Our small sub contracting business may not actually stop working completely to qualify for unemployment benefits, but we will very likely slow down to the point that the one or two payments would help fill the gap.

Florida is proving that this virus doesn't just die in warm weather.
Travel accounts for a good chunk of Florida cases, but I don't think the debate was if it can exist in warm weather...its will the spread be slowed by warmer weather...which we will be able to verify as we exit June or July what the warmer areas of the country and new daily case reports look like.

Okay, so here's the thing when it comes to warmer weather and viruses. Influenza and the common cold spike it the winter because people spend more time indoors. Therefore it's a lot more probable that you can catch a virus when we are all cooped up together. If we remain under quarantine, the same will continue into the summer, regardless of temps or humidity. If the weather played a factor, you'd have numbers to prove it. So far, that really hasn't been the case.

I hope you were keeping 6ft of distance from others. Marking this post to revisit in future to see how much the outbreak spreads in this area from today. 23 Gwinnett cases confirmed, 555 in state.

It may not just be about temperatures. One theory is that higher RH means the tiny water droplets surrounding viruses that originate from someone that coughs or sneezes won’t evaporate as fast if the RH is higher. That causes the virus to fall to the ground sooner due to the heavier weight from the water. Therefore, it doesn’t travel as far meaning it doesn’t reach as many other people. You may think this would only be relevant to being outside, where there are usually not as many folks close together thus partially negating the importance of this. However, higher RH outside usually translates to some extent to higher RH inside even with a good AC. I know at my house I sweat a whole lot more on the treadmill in the summer than in the winter despite similar temperatures.

That’s not the only factor. Some viruses become seasonal after they’re introduced, so even if this continues to grow exponentially through summer, that doesn’t mean that SARS-CoV-2 can’t have a seasonal pattern later and only emerge during winter months.

Viruses survive better outside of the body in low humidity and colder temperatures. This has been proven, in general, with many viruses including the Coronavirus family. That much is not up for debate.

Secondly, obviously our body temperature is in the upper 80s, and when we have a fever it’s even warmer. We aren’t running around with 60 degree body temps. We know viruses can live in warmer temps, but that’s not the argument here.

It’s all about whether or not warmer temps in the US as a whole will slow progression.

About the checks and all that I feel like the GOP plan and the Democrats plan screw over a lot of people for either not making enough or not being able to get unemployment. If I’ve read Trumps plan correctly everyone under $75,000 single or $150,000 couples get a $1000 check per adult and a $500 check per child. It just seems like Trumps plan if fairer to everyone within the brackets. Ik not everything’s fair but I’m also biased because my dads self employed my moms a retired teacher and my sister was in PT school in 2018 so nothing the GOP or Democrats have will really help us.

Thats a good point. But will also do 0 to jump start economy thats 70% consumer driven after we come out of this. Need to do both and help small business survive next 4 to 6 weeks

Despite theories that viruses survive better in cold air, I was wondering if it would be safe to assume that food put in the fridge will be safer because that refrigeration may kill any viruses that may have already been on the food? Anyone know?

Larry,
That is a very good question.
Cannot do it with lettuce, tomatoes and such, but a good cooking would seem to be a good "killer" of virus on food ...

So, what does one do about salad vegetables and fruits, things that aren’t heated up. I wash them with water and do also sometimes use soap with the water on some things like apples before eating them.
