Coronavirus (Stay on Topic)

Thankfully highly contagious to birds not humans and hopefully it stays that way.

If I’m not mistaken that’s the type of influenza they worry about sometime in the future mutating to a strain that could spread between humans like other strains of influenza, they actually are modifying it in labs in the US to see how the virus could jump and how it can be prevented

Yeah that's often how bird flu outbreaks begin, I think one global pandemic is enough for now, thanks.

I've really tried to maintain a clear head so far and not panic... Until tonight. On the upside, I finally hit Aldi at the perfect time and bought NEEDS only without going overboard and there were no crowds. On the downside, all of the new regulations/exposure my husband has at the firenfrnow have me stressed, and a military friend gave me an update on what he's hearing and being briefed nm on, and it's crazy.

Man, this thread is getting hard to read. I get a headache every time I log in. ?

Might make a meat run in the morning. I need to replenish after this weekend. Can’t get complacent. I know I’m as prepared as I’ll ever be for a complete societal breakdown but I have to keep the foot on the gas.

I am not trying spread anything, as I can't say for sure, but I was told (by someone more in the know) to expect us to go on a nationwide lockdown within 24 hours. This is insane!

I went out to get a few things earlier this evening and stores were VERY busy. Interestingly I noted that everyone I saw closely was quite calm, lots of smiles, very cordial. That, at least, was nice to see.

Be careful every one. I hope all of you stay safe, and may God be with each of you, your loved ones, and our world during this time of uncertainty!

Germany has passed France confirmed case wise with 5813 to France's 5433. France has ten times the deaths Germany has, 127 to 13.

Obviously Germany must be catching all the mild cases amoung the younger people. If my math is right that is a CFR of 0.2% which is by a good margin the lowest in the world with that many cases.

I work at Goodwill as a cashier so unless the company decides to close retail stores or the state/fed government lays down the hammer. The whole social isolation thing is kinda impossible for me.

Speaking of that, I wonder how clothing/wares retailers fit into all of this. They are not as vital as grocery stores ofc but will they be grouped with them and be forced to stay open in the event of a complete shutdown?

I noticed that myself. I'm sure they're some demographics favorable to Germany, but it doesn't explain that wide of a discrepancy. I don't think France and Germany are that much different demo-wise. And for some reason, I don't think they're fudging the numbers.

Are they just getting lucky w/ mild cases among younger people, or are they doing something different?

I have a feeling clothing stores would be closed if we had a complete shutdown. But take that w/ a grain of salt.

Of note, a 'complete shutdown' is probably something that the vast majority of us (if not all) have never experienced in our lifetime. Let that sink in for a moment.

Yeah, very interesting. They maybe just finding more of the mild cases in general. If you use the Diamond Princess as a base with a older set of people, the virus killed 7 out of just under 700 people or 1%. Maybe Italy, Spain and France have a ton of cases they haven't confirmed

Puerto Rico is closing all businesses except "supermarkets, restaurants offering carryout or delivery, pharmacies, medical equipment stores, gas stations and banks — along with suppliers to those businesses", and they are imposing an overnight 9pm curfew.

This is great news, hopefully this vaccine comes sooner rather than later.

If this turns out to be a viable vaccine, then I will be 100% certain that this virus has been around and known about for a long time and that it did not come out of a bat into humans through a food market. I'm already pretty certain of that as it is.

Did you read the thread? Some real idiots in there. One person actually said that cancer is an autoimmune disease. That’s not how that works. Yes, there is a correlation between autoimmune diseases and higher cancer rates in those patients, but cancer is not an autoimmune disease.

So here's a thought I've had after seeing how this coronavirus has spread. What if a nation were to develop something like it but even more deadly, develop a vaccine for only their people and mandate it, then intentionally release it on the world or threaten to as a type of terrorism/control attempt? It even makes me wonder if this coronavirus could be a "test run" to see how world economies respond and handle it... very speculative on my part but I was watching a documentary last night about small pox where they talked about it being eliminated but the possibility could exist for it to be used at some point as a bio-terror weapon.

If you were gonna do a test run why not do a real run. All this will do is tip off the world and cause them to create a vaccine as well. If this was a biological weapon why doesnt it target a segment of the population that best benefits the people who release it.

If I was a foreign power looking to dismantle a society to make it easier to overthrow them I would not make a virus that targets 80 yr olds. I would target 20 to 30 somethings because that's who you would be fighting against.

My guess is as of right now this is a virus that has followed hundreds of other viruses and made the jump into humans. This isnt unprecedented or even unexpected.

Oh good grief, this is nonsense.

I’m not arguing or wishing to create undue problems. But I am genuinely curious as to your reasoning. Can you expound?

Let's calm down with the conspiracy theories.

I have no proof or evidence at all. I don't trust the official story because it doesn't pass the smell test. I don't trust governments to tell the truth. And I don't think the whole whoops we can't test in the USafter having 2 months to prepare was because of mere incompetence. There's more to the story. Add in that the properties of this virus are far too perfect, and at least for me, it says it came out of a lab. I'm not saying it was intentional, though.

Also, vaccines don't get developed in 3 months.

Sorry, but this is absurd. If the virus was already "known" it wouldn't be taking "a year to 18 months to fully validate any potential vaccine."

Glenn beck does a great job on his radio show everyday about Corona.

Today the USA is 50 days behind China. China is slowly opening back up and getting back to some normalcy.

We are 2 weeks behind Italy.

Estimate is Hospitals will be maxed out in 7-8 days.

I honestly don’t think we are going to ever see hospitals “max out” here in the United States. I think this will be far less serious than it is being made out to be.

I agree I honestly would be shocked if the death toll here was over 500. Keep in mind large scale nation disasters like hurricane Katrina took more lives then that!
