Misc Cold Season Complaining

Hmmf, GFS says Atlanta doesn't even get in to the lower 30's and reaches nearly 60 on Saturday and Sunday. What cold?
.LONG TERM...
(Friday morning through next Tuesday)
Issued at 334 PM EST Wed Nov 27 2024

The main story through the long term period will be the persistent
more winter-like temperatures. An initial Arctic surface high will
settle southeastward into the region at the start of the period amid
northwesterly flow aloft. The first widespread freeze of the season
(albeit later than average) will occur by Saturday morning when low
temperatures are likely to range from the low to mid 20s in the
mountains to the lower 30s in central Georgia. Highs and lows Friday
to Sunday will run some 8-12 degrees below normal.

A renewed push of even chillier temperatures will arrive in the wake
of a shortwave that will swing through the northwest flow on Sunday.
While no precipitation will occur, highs and lows will tumble a few
more degrees early next week to as much as 10-15+ degrees below
normal. Highs will remain in the 40s to low 50s and lows will dip as
chilly as the low to mid 20s with a few teens sprinkled in the
mountains by Monday and Tuesday mornings.

That's the real threat index. OPI = Overnight Page Index. How many pages of the thread were added over night. <2 = Nothing on the horizon. 3-5 = something promising is showing up. 6-10 = legit threat. 10+ = game on, 20% chance of snow. LOL.
i unironically think this is true and an actual forecasting tool

Let’s take a poll. What are the chances we get to start a thread called major winter storm (insert date) this year?

100%

What are the chances we have to ban at least one person from that thread?

I'll set the line at 99%. Over or under?

Well, punting till Christmas waiting for the ridge to retrograde. Ahhh, that's the winter I remember. lol. I guess I'll take this week of cool and just enjoy.

I really think this is the year of accountability. Can we create a special out on winter tag? Anyone with the tag wont be allowed to enter any storm threads and are relegated to here. If we aren't going to get snow it can atleast be entertaining

Wait where is this? Nashville avg is supposedly 4.9 and they rarely go a season without at least a few dustings. 2017 was my worst winter with only a couple of flurries here and there. I remember Nashville got a late season sloppy 1 inch surprise in March that year. It was a tick too far south for my area and it was the only year since 2006 that Nashville managed more snow then White House.

That's GSP airport most likely. I thought the 30 year average was 4.7 though. Either way there is a sharp cutoff if this area and always has been. Tigerville averages 5.9 where Lauren's only 30 miles away is more like Columbia average in the 2 inch range. Either way it's pathetic to go this long without a single flake. We really have a right to complain east of the Apps in these CAD areas.

Must have been some bad model runs to not have any new threads in 5 hours

not really enthused that the trough orientation and axis position during this window sucks, just like the last few years. at this point i would kill for a SER, sharpen things up

we're fighting for our life in richmond!! i mean what the hell. i got more snow in wilmington

Leaving out Wednesday for just outside of Boone. 8 Bedroom cabin (Rented TU - SU) Hoping for snow Thanksgiving evening into the morning… 🤞. Me personally, rolling back to the triad Saturday.
Regardless, I’m so blessed that I’ll be with family.

Off and on flurries up here near Blowing Rock since yesterday. Nice little burst last evening. :D
