Misc Cold Season Complaining

It’s so cool for us to be tracking a system where almost everyone on the board could cash in. So many times not all of us are in the game and rooting for one thing for our own back yard takes away from someone else. This one has been fun to track, but I sure hope we can reel it in and see it to fruition. Heck, I’ll even sacrifice some of my potential snow if those to the south can get something historic.

I live much farther south than most people on here, the amount of hype that this whole event is getting on social media is reaching the point of absurdity. Being from a very small town, I get asked questions constantly about the weather as I'm known as the "guy" to ask about such a thing and my Facebook inbox is getting flooded with hypothetical questions about "snow" and "extreme cold." I'm trying to temper everyone's expectations because most people do not understand that one wild model run showing an excessive amount of snow does not necessarily equate to such a scenario actually transpiring. My location has only had light dustings in 2014/2018 since the last 1 inch snowfall on February 12, 2010, the pendulum has to break at some point in time again and there's definitely some enthusiasm growing amongst the population to see snow again. For the sake of everyone on here, I hope that we all can state once this upcoming pattern ends that we had at least some accumulation of snow on the ground.

Personally, I find it crazy that what used to be weather nerd stuff when I was a teen is leaking out to social media.

Not sure it's a great thing either. Loved that 12z run, but it's just one solution of what could happen.

That's crazy that you haven't had a 1 inch snowfall in 15 years.

Honestly, I'm watching Pivotal Weather right now and at least for now, the only thing is that this looks slower and weaker than 12z, but the potential solution is still there.

Looks like no storm for the 2nd round on the GFS. Everything stays way south and weaker at 186. We are losing this one too it looks like.

So many people just simply can’t handle the ups and downs of a threat, which is understandable but the constant one liners after a run that doesn’t drop a foot of snow is tiresome. We live in the south and our yearly averages are very small. This is the most legitimate threat for just about everyone from Texas to the Carolina’s that we’ve had in years. Relax and enjoy the ride.

Go look back at old threads and see first hand the ups and downs we went thru. There will be plenty more runs that don’t show you what you want to see. Dagum!

I mean people do realize this "threat" is over a week away right? I don't care where you are....getting overly emotional over run to run changes that far out is wild.

Emotions are always running high around here, but this is about like dangling a steak over a group of lions who haven’t eaten in a month. It better snow for a lot of these boys and girls!

Maybe i should move back to a place where most years it doesn't snow. I mean I never remember being mad about that... The expectations up here and the beliefs people have about our snow climo is crazy. I mean I've had people tell me about how snowy it is here before
Just move somewhere where it snows 60 in a year get it out of your system or you're going to worry about this your whole life :)

I just want a northern stream shortwave to dig, tilt and give a little storm for moderate snow. But with the suppression, we’ll likely need a phase to get an actual storm. I hate depending on a phase. Timing issues always seem to work against us.

When was the last time we got a well timed phase for a storm?

That year had like 2 weeks if of snow and sleet storms back to back. There was a 6 inch glacier all over the NCSU campus that took a while to melt.

Oh I bet if I went to Breckenridge or somewhere close by for a winter I'd never want to see snow again 🤣

But I've always tried to be somewhere where it's still a big deal and it's not there

Honestly I’m not sure why we pay so much attention to the gfs suite. It’s pretty horrible and gets lower scores than euro and Canadian. I’m paying less and less attention to it, even in weenie runs. I just kinda roll my eyes unless it has other support.
EPS is moving that way.

Frankly, and this has been said by countless others before, really, none of the particulars on any of these models past D7 mean a hill of beans.

The value out in time is general pattern guidance. It's helpful to see how one suite stacks up against the others and how consistent one suite is being eith itself pattern-wise. Everything else is a clown show.

Lol. The GEFS is can kicking.

This can only go well for us.

They posted something recently that really unlocked a memory for me (2/12/10).

Thing that bugs me though is that this feels like a very complicated deal when you look at the energy picture, but who knows, maybe it was the same with this storm, as after all, on the defunct accuweather forums, I often acted like a child.

Meteostar would also unlock a memory for me as well. I like having more access to weather models than just "meteostar" when I feel like having the access.

I've already used up my annual allotment of excitement for D7 + anything. The only minor value in looking at these fantasy solutions is to see how different H5 configurations evolve so you know what to hope for that will never happen.
