Misc Cold Season Complaining

Yeah, something is different this year with the predominate winter pattern. For the last few years we've had cold dumps into central US and storm tracks that ran up or west of the Apps. So far this year, there has been more troughs focused on the east coast. We're getting the fantasy storms now because the models keep that configuration moving forward. Maybe the neutral ESNO is the key. If so, lets keep it that way.

Out in fantasy land, but here's the 12z GFS, day 16, 2m temp anomaly. The last few years, the cold anomalies would have been pushed west a state or two. This is great to see again.

The fantasy storm on the GFS is nothing different than the same nonsense that has been going on for most of past decade, Natchez, MS/Central Louisiana gets snow while Macon, GA/Columbia, SC are completely shut out.
Honestly I live in Columbia & the run reminded me of the normal days of missing just a couple counties to the North. That happens ALOT during some of our best Winters.

And as others have said, we shouldn't be taking fantasy storms seriously 10-16 days out. It's fun to look at but if there is a storm, it'll be totally different by the time it materializes. It's all about the pattern.

Agreed. If we are not looking at fantasy storms in the LR then there isn't much in any realistic expectation of winter weather occurring.

it seems like there are a lot of times where it snows further west in the Deep South but it doesn’t translate to the east.

Very ugly map. We do not need it to be this cold for snow. Anyway, it's way out there and probably wrong.

Texas is about to blow Clemson a new asshole! SMU was Clemsons signature win and jeez they turned out to be awful when playing someone. Texas by 3 scores
Yeah ,well, the frigging committee gets what it deserves. I am sorry but Miami, Alabama, Ole Miss or South Carolina would have been better match ups in the first two games and likely three than Indiana, SMU and Clemson. The automatic qualifiers need to go bye bye.

I agree. I'd be ok with the old BCS format just selecting the best 12 teams. I would be 7 or 8 SEC teams but so be it

Couldn't agree more! Get rid of the first round bye as well and max the bracket out at 16. I love the concept of 8 teams getting home playoff games and going from there. Yeah, there will be some crap match ups like #1 versus #16, etc but we get that in a larger dose with basketball already so, let it go that direction. Sadly, the best game of the day will likely be Vandy versus Ga Tech while most will be watching that TX/Clemson match up.

Edit: The Vandy/Ga Tech game is next Friday. That sux.

I didn’t realize Georgia Tech and Vandy played today.

We’re going to need the cold dumps to be centered just to our west to score in this pattern.

With the giant trough off New England we’ll need a little troughing to the west to get moist WSW flow aloft to overrun the Arctic air mass in place. Eastern centric cold with a western ridge is likely going to leave us mostly cold and dry again.
