As we all know, the CFS is a crap model that should not be taken seriously (..for details). But after saying that I do enjoy looking at it to see what wonderful fantasy storms it can spit out. Well last night's run did not disappoint. It has (at least) four winter events starting the first week of January all the way to the end of its run.

Hard to look at this MJO U-turn again. It's like golf.... hitting a smoked drive down the middle but it turns into a hard draw into the trees halfway down the fairway (8 holes in a row), lol. Afraid we get a week of cold when the mjo is in Larry's phase 8 COD quadrant, but we warm right back up as it gets outside of it.
This is the same chart we see every winter. And this is one of the reasons why it's super easy to blanket forecast a warmer than average winter.
I understand the argument that with XYZ background state a strong P8-1 is bad, but until I actually see a bad pattern in the east with a strong 8-1 pass (which we never will get a chance to see since we will never get a strong 8-1 pass in winter again), I don't care...I'm rooting for it anyway. Because I KNOW the 4-6 is bad.
We're going to get a 1 week shot coming up in January. We better cash in.

A week ago this model was barely getting on the left side at all. It now goes much further into phase 7 and 8. I'm hoping that it will keep correcting and have a little wider swing though 8-1-2.

BAMwx says he thinks this will be one of the best January patterns we've seen in decades. Buckle up! Yeah and last Feb Webb was saying that pattern was one grandma used to cook up in the good ole days. And she forgot how to cook.

I’m just curious to see how well this boards mental stability will be after we get to March and realize we are about to start year 4 without any real measurable snow for most of us. Should we hire a SouthernWx shrink?
I rather race through it than never get there at all. With each passing day, confidence increases that we are actually going to score a favorable MJO pass during a fantastic time of the year. Even if the window is only 10-15 days long, it could be one heck of a window.
Been thinking the same Stevo. Morale is at an all time low as of now. We do this again this year it'll be only a handful left talking to themselves next year.

But muh fantasy snows! I remember it used to snow all the time but the data says it didn't butt i remember that it did. Arggghh everyone busted last Feb so I'm doing to continue to criticize anyone that had a forecast but I've never had an original thought or put forth my ideas. Rage warm warm wump wump kitty bump

As it was said earlier by someone It's unreal how boring the weather is in winter when we can't even get fantasy snow below 3000 feet or a thousand miles away on 16 day models and a hundred ensembles. Apologies to those who work on it and This is not a knock on those who try to figure out all the super long range stuff but man that stuff is just mind boggling boring too when it never seems to lead to a threat or work out. After going on 4 years of "pattern potential" on super long range ensembles leading to crap...its legit amazing people still find it very interesting. I get it..I know why folks look but I've never been a fan of it (mainly because I think any accuracy is nothing more than chance) but man this run of winter diarrhea makes it seem all the more fruitless.
OK rant over...ive been hopeful this never ending winterless streak will have to end soon but I'm starting to wonder myself and it's doing a number on me.
