Misc Cold Season Complaining

I think the big thing for me is that I haven't had a storm that actually covers the tips of the grass blades in the yard since 2015. I think that's usually around 3" of snow. To me, that's a big marker of a decent snow since after you get all the grass tips topped, there's a decreasing marginal value to additional snow, since it's just a thicker blanket at that point. Everything is covered either way. Don't get me wrong, I would rather have 6" of snow than 3", but getting to 3" would be lovely. I don't think our January 2022 2-2.5" even topped the blades.

The entire east coast has been doing rough! DC/Balt averaging under a foot the last 7 years, nyc averaging 12 inches less than normal, Bos like 20 inches less than normal. Though looked at Minneapolis they have been well above... hmm. Richmond has RDU's avg rn the last 7 years at 5.5
Yeah take a look at this from Albany. Parts of the Catskills and Berkshires were 100" below normal last year

Cut your grass closer, problem solved

I'm disappointed @LickWx hasn't turned this post sideways yet.

I'm 39 years old and have lived in either Oconee or Pickens county my entire life. (The farthest northwest counties in the state of South Carolina.)

I don't count January 1988 because I was 2 and half years old and don't remember it.

I challenge anyone to prove they've done worse than that over the last 30 years.

Been 5 years since Raleigh has seen a 1"+ Feb event. This Feb 2020 event could be like what we see on Wed/Thursday this week.

And before that it was in 2015. We used to be able stumble drunk into a 3" Feb event...now its the impossible.

I have a hard time believing you didn't get 6" in March 1993.

Feb 2020 was a slopfest with BL temps near / above freezing, warm soil temps, and the sun angle killed the early portion of the storm. This one will be better with BL temps in the 20s. 😎

Feb 2015 was also kind of a slopfest, but when you get 6” that matters less, LOL.

The best storm I ever got was February 2014. I recall snow stuck on contact so it was impossible to find where the road started and the driveways ended. I may never be happy unless that's the bar I set for storms lol

12z (LR) HRRR (I know, laugh at me) is way more juiced than 12z Euro. I'm still not convinced that some of the globals are properly assessing all of the dynamics at play here. Very difficult forecast from all angles (dynamics/QPF, thermal profile, track of surface low, etc.) About to send out an email to 1,000 people and I honestly don't know what to say.

Let me take a swing it from you.

I’ve seen this song and dance enough this season. We might get a dusting here in the Charlotte area but the writing is on the wall. Even if we get favorable trends back this way before go time they don’t seem to verify this season. It’s cooked.
We've struggled here in the H'ville that's for sure lol

Looks like another minor snow up here in Wytheville. 2 to 3 inches according to most models. I'll take it. Still have not broken 4 inch mark in 4 years now which is unusual considering we average 23" of snow a year. We have not hit our historical average since 2018 or 2019.
